Hi gang,

Still need to get my 1964 Frigidaire Filtrator working. Rich, Train Guy , has been a trememdous help with parts and advice. What I need now is a rear drum dryer seal that is no longer available. The Filtrator requires a fiberglass coated felt seal. The seal was glued to the lip on the dryer's back panel. I have been told by a repairman, not a member of this site , to use weather striping but Home Depot only has foam rubber seals. I checked with Michael's and Hobby Lobby for felt and they only have felt squares. I thought I had a chance of finding replacement felt through The Felt People.com. I just called them and had no luck. I need some suggestions as to where could I find some replacement felt. The original seal is thick as a nickel and one inch wide. Any advice or how to jerry rig a replacement seal would be appreciated. I thought about buying several front drum glides seen on E Bay and taking the felt off of them and piecing the strips together.

Once I recover from my latest retina surgery and allowed to read ( I'm not supposed to be on line reading) and do some lifting and strenuous work, I hope to get the dryer running again with the parts from Train Guy.

why couldnt you use a modern dryers felt replacement? I had to order a back felt for my dryer 1974 GM Frigidaire from stupid expensive Serve-all and then found I could have replaced it with a very inexpensive dryer felt kit (comes with the high temp adhesive) from eBay.

Oh well. Live and learn.

Whirlpool and Maytag dryers use felt seals and Maytag even sells that lovely brown high temp adhesive. Another joy: Maytag parts now come in FSP packaging with nothing to differentiate Whirlpool parts from former Maytag parts. Think of the poor people in parts places who have to unpack shipments.

Thanks

Patrick,

Whatever help you can offer I would appreciate it. Looking forward to your e mail.

Thanks for the info. I guess I don't know which modern dryer model would have the felt I need. How much did you spend at Serve-all? I could not find Serve-all in a google serch.

I have been checking E bay for dryer parts but I don't remember seeing any sellers with a rear dryer felt kit. Any hep there would be apprecited.

Whirlpool and Maytag Seals

Tomturbomatic,

Thanks for the info. So you think I can use a Whirlpool or Maytag seal?

Rich

M'k. Its a typo. srry my fault. Its called Servall. try googling that. They are exspensive. Its just a dryer drum felt but if you say 1950, 60, 70 something the money for the part and time waiting multiply significantly. Try eBay for a dryer drum felt.

the link is for a rear one.
