Need help Identify this Vintage Admiral Dishwasher.

Recently I was sent these photo's of this vintage probably 70's Admiral Portable Dishwasher. I wish the photos were a little better. It's looks like it says Admiral Auto something rather.

I'd like to find out if anyone knows what model this Admiral Dishwasher is/year ? or if they might have some photos of this particular model.

The machine was made by D&M, which I didnt know Admiral had rebadged until now. Im also not sure where one could buy Admiral appliances in Canada, but they were a bottom of the line to middle of the line brand. I do know that they rebadged Whirlpool products for the entirety of their run in Canada. Admiral used rebadged Whirlpool powerclean dishwashers, but those werent released until 1982ish from Whirlpool, so I think this machine would be from 1978-1982.

i have never seeen admiral dishwashers of this type

the only dm dishwasher I know of was the Kenmore brand of 1979 I would say only the wood top of the dishwasher is worth saving as for the dishwasher it self I doubt its worth saving

D&M Pile of $hit

As John said save the top. The rest is worth no more than scrap value. Unless you want a flood or fire in your kitchen when it goes MASSIVELY wrong.

I remember in the early 80s they had a top of the line model similar to that which did not have a timer knob, like a kitchenaid. I remember it didn't clean well but we would always rapid advance thru the dry portion of the cycle.

D&M Hate/KA Blind Love

Ladies, ladies - puhlease!

 

D&M had some interesting styling cues and, given the internal edict against changing the wash system materially, their engineers did the best they could with what they had.

 

KA before they added a second level to the wash system did not do a better job of washing and their filter system really didn't make up for the lack of a second rinse. Had too many to fall for that. But, gosh, one need only say KA and half the ladies here risk ruining their nylons, they fall to their knees in much-practiced anticipation.

 

So, come on, folks - John has been with us since last Thursday and this is our introduction?

 

Sheesh. 

 

(Though it's quite true: D&M had nice wooden tops).

All KitchenAid dishwashers from the KD-14 through the KD-18 series had at least 2 final rinses, and in some case, three. The Superba series had 3 rinses from the 14 through the 18 models. The KDS-19 was the first Superba model to feature one final rinse, although the KDP, KDI and KDC still had two rinses. All models from the 20 series forward had just one final rinse. I guess I always think of the KD-15 to 18 series as classic KitchenAid.

Yes, I know, but do we really have to list every single model to make a point? Our KA15 washes everything perfectly clean! It's also the last KA prior to multi-arm designs I've ever had which does.

Doesn't change my point - the fanatical KA/SpeedQueen worship and D&M bashing is just plain wrong.

Our center dial Maytags are far better built than our FilterFlos - and the GE's wash rings around the Maytags, hands down. Even the later ones.

 

Yes, KA used to build some nice dishwashers. No, that doesn't mean everything else is junk.

The KD12 had a 5 minute wash and two one minute rinses plus dry.

Round pushbuttons

I thought there was a D&M machine with round cycle pushbuttons.  Recent talk about the Modern Maid dishwasher/range made me recall that the original dishwasher had them but I remembered that at least one other brand had them. And here it is - Admiral!   I can sleep at night again now.... LOL

Many older KA had two or even three rinses. We know. The point is that a lot of KA didn't and did a horrid job of rinsing and not that good washing. 

All I'm saying is that the D&M bashing when a new member has found something cool looking isn't a great way to present ourselves. Let's reserve that for The Collector's Club which must not be Named.

My mom had a harvest gold Admiral dishwasher. It was built in but had originally been a portable. It looked exactly the same as the one shown but the cutlery basket was square and in the middle of the lower rack.
The cycles were buttons and then you advanced the dial to the correct letter.
A,Rinse and Hold,Pots and Pans,Super Sani wash and Normal wash. B,Short Sani wash. C,China and Crystal.
The cycle went,wash,rinse,rinse,wash,rinse,rinse. Pots and Pans stopped at the second last rinse with no heat. China and Crystal was just the last two rinses and you added detergent to the open cup. You got a 2 minute wash and a 5 minute rinse. Everything got a hot dry except Pots and Pans.There was an open cup and one swing out cup.
The dishwasher came from my Aunt's boyfriend. He worked at a Maytag store and would bring the trade ins home and repair and resell them. He had quite a little business going in my town. He was an hour away.

I just realized the bottom rack has the dish loops rather than the straight tines.  My first house had a Kenmore with these exact same racks, except mine were yellow.  The dish loops would put this dishwasher about 1979 or 1980.
