OK, so I bought the computer and the digital camera and took the pictures..... When I select the JPEG formatted picture I want to send (from the Choose File button), the putsh the Update & Preview button, I get a message saying I'm trying to send a pic that's more than 400,000 bytes. How would I go about taking care of that problem?

I'm not loading directly from the camera (a Canon Power Shot A250), but from iPhoto. I'm totally new to this computer business, and would love to start sharing pics.

If anyone can help, I'd really, really, REALLY appreciate it!

I save the pictures on my C drive, then you have to make them smaller (under the 400,000) so click the start button in the bottom left corner. Then click "programs", then click "microsoft office tools", then click "microsoft photo editor"
Once the photo editor opens up, click up top left on file, open the picture where you saved it on your C drive, the click on image, then resize it down to about 40% and click the save button.. it should be about the right size then.

Hmm, I guess there are two ways that I do it. If I need to send a pic to an email, I would click once on the picture I wanted to email while in the 'Organize' pane. Then you can click on the email button below, and it will bring up a box asking you what to do with the photo. You can have iPhoto reduce the picture to 640x480, which will be a decent enough size to send through email. Then you click compose, and volia, it will automatically put the photo into a new email using the 'Mail' application.

-OR-

You could choose to export the file. Highlight the photo needed, the choose "Export.." from the file menu. It will bring up a box for information on what to do with the file. If you are going to attach the picture to an email, or to post here on the sight, it would be easiest to just choose the File Export button, choose 'JPG' from Format drop-down, then you have the option to have the file sized to a specified width/height, or full size. The picture you have taken w/ your digital camera is probably quite large, so a size of 640x480 or 800x600 would be good. Then click Export, and it will ask for the name and location to export the file. From there, you can attach the picture to an email, or use your browse feature on this website to pull the picture from your computer! Hope this helps...

swestoyz---- a thousand thank-you's for your help! I was able to post photos of my appliances in the Deluxe forum. A mere 17 years and they'll be eligible for inclusion in the Big Boys forum, LOL

I chose a Mac for several reasons: I have a recording studio set-up in my house and every big studio I've ever been in uses Macs. Up to this point, I've used the ADAT (digital tape) format. Now I'll be able record directly to the computer. I also use one at work and most viruses leave them alone. Plus, they're sexy as hell!

Hey, nice iMac!

Would love to get my hands on one of those. For now, my 4 year old Quicksliver G4 runs w/ the best of them. I see you have your dock set up on the left hand side of the screen. I prefer it set up that way as well. Glad to be of service :)

YAY MACS!

I have a 4 year old 15" Titanium PowerBook G4 that I LOVE! I've switched my entire family to Macs! The PC just sits downstairs and collects dust. My mom and dad both have 14" iBooks, my sister has the tiny 12" iBook, and my partner has a Mac Mini, and a 12" iBook as well! Yay!

My only advice is to buy the Applecare Protection Plan! I almost got screwed when my computer had issues 7 days out of it's original one year warranty (complaining goes a long way)...

Frigilux: Are you using Pro Tools or something else?

My husband is currently using an Alesis HD 24. He's used it for a couple of years now. He has talked about getting a Mac too. You'll have to tell me how you like it. He doesn't ever get on the computer so it would take him awhile to get use to it.

When I post a pic from iPhoto, I do a JPEG export to my desktop. You can control the file size from there.

Hi Bethann,

I haven't chosen which program I'll be working with, yet. Pro Tools seems to be the one almost everyone uses. I'm a little daunted by it all. I'm a sliders 'n' knobs kinda guy in the studio and the idea of doing it all from a little screen freaks me out a bit.
I'm just not a computer person....yet. Plus, call me a Luddite, but I like the sound of analog. So much of what I hear done in amateur studios with Pro Tools sounds sterile to me. That's my rationalization, anyway, LOL!
