I have a Kitchenaid dishwasher, model kuds22ot, bought in 1993. The dishwasher detergent will not disolve in the main soap dispenser, What is the problem, and can it be fixed by myself

Thanks, Michael Hays

Detergent doesn't specifically dissolve in the cup ... it mostly falls out when the cup opens and what's left it washed out by the spraying arm.

If your cup not opening at all?  Or it opens but there's caked detergent left when the cycle is over?  That is typically caused by aged detergent, by insufficient spray pressure or volume (which in turn can have any of several causes), or by spray to the cup blocked by a large item loaded at front of the lower rack.

Just a thought.....

Is the water reaching the detergent cup? I know in my Kenmore/Frigidaire/Whirpool whatever the hell it is dishwasher if I have a big platter, pitcher etc. loaded in the front the spray will not reach the cup.

WHAT EXACTLY DOES NOT HAPPEN?

Can you be more specific as to which cup does not empty? Is it the prewash or wash cup? The bimetal actuators on these machines depend on the proper amount of water that fills the tub which will affect the amperage draw of the motor which is fed thru the bimetal for the prewash cup and then when it has to open for the main wash, the machine fills and then circulates the water and after a very short time, the heating element comes on and that draw is run thru the bimetal for the main det. cup. If the element is not working then the cup may not open at the proper time if at all. So you can see why you need to really describe what is going on with the machine.

THANKS EVEYRONE FOR YOUR RESPONSE. I HAVE DONE THE FOLLOWING:

A. USED VINEGAR TWICE IN THW RINCE CYCLE.
B. USED FINISH DISHWASHER CLEANER.
C. SWITCHED FROM CASCADE TO FINISH POWDER.

JUST EMPTIED THE DISHWASHER, EVERYTHING CAME OUT SPOTLESS. THERE WAS MAYBE LESS THAN A TABLESPOON OF DETERGENT LEFT IN THE MAIN DETERGENT CUP. IT COULD BE MY DISHWASHER NEED'S REPLACED OR MY WATER PRESSURE IS LOW.

MIKE
