I've used a top load forever and finally landed a SQ a few years ago and love it. However, now that my well is a low yield well, my SQ top load keeps running us out of water. I've heard front loaders use far less water.

Looking for recommendations, used definitely included, for a front load washer that is reliable, won't break the bank, and fairly serviceable. Models, manufacturers, anything.

I would love to know your opinion.

Used is basically anything for a reasonable price near you.
With a used appliance, I've always seen it as anything you get from it is great. If you just pay 100 bucks for a year of service, that's still a good service.

LGs generally perform relatively well, fast and quiet.
Since they are widely sold, parts are easy to come by. Major failures like bearings are pretty rare, control boards aren't unheard of but not exactly common either.
Most defects are minor things like pumps or the hall sensors.

ELux has been ranked at the top cleaner several times. Those have more major than minor issues though compared to LG, but usually less issues over all maybe.
Not as fast though.

Full-size US style front load washers

Well, only use One 1/4 to 1/3 The water of your current top load Speed Queen.

The best choice for reliability easy repair of course would be a Speed Queen front loader and if you can find a used one, it could be a real deal, but they’re expensive new and may not be worth it for you.

Beyond that I would buy any full-size used front loader that’s in good shape. Just check out why they’re selling it figure out how old it is but if you can pick it up for a couple hundred dollars, it wouldn’t matter that much if it’s LG Samsung air Electrolux, Whirlpool Maytag, etc. GE etc. they’re all very efficient and do a good job used properly .

If buying used, make sure that the main bearing is quiet listen to it in the high spin cycle. Also make sure it doesn’t have any signs of mold from misuse.

If I had to choose right now... It would be an LG front load with turbo wash (any model that has turbo wash) OR a Speed Queen...and 3rd on the list would be Electrolux...and whichever one you get... PLUG it into a surge protector

Front load washers, etc.

All Decent appliances have built-in surge protectors if you really want to do something for surge protection in your house install a whole house surge protector on your electrical panel.

Turbo wash is fun, but all it really does is pull all the dirty soil from the sump up and keeps dumping it back in the clothing and since the holes are so small and front load washers today more of the dirt stays in the clothing. I’d rather let soil settle in the sump be pumped away each time the machine drains. It’s also one more thing to break down and cause service calls and fault codes.

Combo..

You may be right...but I don't wanna risk it because of this:

In 2005 got my new washer.. 2007 or 2008, F-DL error. Called service. He came, diagnosed as door lock... left, ordered new door lock/latch or whatever it was... came back... installed that... same F-DL error... so I called back... he came out, took top off... wiggled the wires in the back. (that's LITERALLY all he did with that service call).. which fixed it momentarily from any errors...left...a few weeks went by... another F-DL...I was so mad when the F-DL happened I took my fist and hit the back top of the duet...and it started working... the errors went away... after a few loads would work fine, the F-DL would come back... I hit the back of the machine, it went away... and worked again for a few more loads... I posted this on garden web at the time ( an old laundry forum ) and others who had the SAME problem were shocked that it worked...hitting the machine when you get that error.....but that only worked until it didn't work... so then I called back service... It was then he ordered a new board... came back, installed it.. It was then I plugged it into a surge protector... and here we are all of the years later with zero issues.... I can't remember but I feel like that whole debacle went on for weeks until it was finally fixed... I remember thinking... wow.. I hate this thing... what a lemon... UGH... and now it's almost 20 years old. crazy!!!

so was it just luck? I don't know...but I don't wanna risk it... I understand they have built in surge protection...but still....

absolute surge protection between use

I unplug my Fisher & Paykel washer each time after use as they advise in their owners manual, close to 20 years for my GWL 11, have a plug in surge protector on the electric outlet.

Speaking of Fisher & Paykel, when did they get out of the US market? I really liked the Whirlpool top loaders that used F&P's quiet motors.

Best new full-size front load washers

Are obviously Speed Queen but they are about twice as expensive as the other good alternatives.

I would look first at a whirlpool or a Maytag. They are the only other union built machines in the US.

After that if you want to go to a foreign manufacture probably an LG I wouldn’t bother with a Samsung Electrolux just has too many repair problems, if you don’t mind Buying Chinese the GE full-size front loader is actually very good. Keep in mind. The GE is 28 inches wide not the more common 27 inches wide if you have a tight space.

As far as the best dryers, they still come from whirlpool and Maytag, Speed Queen is very rugged but again very expensive may not be worth it for the dryer.

I think when they couldn't sell the matching dryers anymore, they stopped selling the TLs aswell.

Many Americans would only consider matching sets.
F&P didn't see enough sales to justify a redesign or major, new design.
And F&P wouldn't rebadge another dryer - they just don't do that, it's not up to their standards.

So, they just stopped selling.

I love my LG. If I had to do it all over again, I'd get another LG. If it had to be a different one, I'd get a SQ or a Samsung based on what my local technician recommended. My last place I lived at just shortly before I moved had a brand new Electrolux and it was terrible compared to the Crosley front loader it replaced. For used, I loved the Maytag Neptune that got replaced by the LG. I also loved the German built Whirlpool Duet we had up at our last cabin, one of my relatives has the Maytag version and it's been a great machine as well. One of my other relatives has a Samsung that's over 10 years old and it's still working just fine, I actually really like it. And I did liked the Crosley from my last place.

And F&P wouldn't rebadge another dryer - they just don't do that, it's not up to their standards.
F&P frontload dryers on the US market were rebadged GE for years, including the two models after discontinuation of SmartLoad. The P model has reverse tumble (as does its GE sibling), J model doesn't.

F&P actually asks you in their manual to UNPLUG the machine between uses?

Wow!

A 10 year old Samsung with no problems? Who would have thought? I guess it's possible.

F&P actually asks you in their manual to UNPLUG the machine between uses?
The user guide advises to turn off the water supply faucets as flood protection on instance of a burst hose, and unplug the machine from the wall outlet when done using it for a wash session.

I turn off the water supply for the three machines (two F&Ps, Neppy TL) that are connected to the tub faucet in the master bath. I don't for the F&P in the laundry room.

I never unplug the F&Ps in the laundry room or bathroom. I unplug the Neppy because the cord otherwise blocks access to one of the sinks.
