HELLO THERE,

I AM NEW TO THE SITE, BUT I AM TRYING TO PURCHASE A VINTAGE WASHER AND DRYER SET ( 1970-1980) FOR A TELEVISION SHOW THAT TAKES PLACE IN 1980. WE ARE SHOOTING IN THE NEW YORK AREA, BUT WE COULD PROBABLY PICK THE MACHINES UP FROM PRETTY MUCH ANYWHERE IN THE UNITED STATES. OF COURSE WE NEED IT WITHIN THE NEXT TWO WEEKS OR SO. SOMETIME BEFORE MAY 18, 2012. PLEASE CONTACT ME IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO SELL ( OR WE CAN RENT) or KNOW WHERE TO FIND A SET TO BUY.
THANK YOU.

NYC

I'd recommend expanding the search to parts of New Jersey near NYC. Ditto for parts of Westchester and Conn.

Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens and to an extent The Bronx has enough of a private single and two family housing stock that one will find washers and dryers, especially old ones stashed in someone's basement. Manhattan could be troublesome as much of the housing stock is multi-family and until recently most buildings did not (some still don't) washing machines and dryers. Old laundry rooms in basements of apartment buildings from the 1970's or 1980's would probably had their equipment updated by the route service by now.

The person to ask is Toggleswitch. IIRC his employment takes him into all manner and sorts of buildings in the NYC area, and often spies "vintage" laundry appliances.

Being as that may, my Whirlpool washer and dryer (in Harvest Gold no less, how 70's can you get?) suit the period but alas they are portable sized units.

If you are willing to pick it up or ship it i have a 1975-1980 A-608 Maytag washer you can have for 40 dollars.
