Do the washer screens go in pointing in or out?
Place them on the faucet ends of the hoses, oriented outward toward the flow from the faucets. IMO, don't place screens at the machine's water valve if screens are already in the valve ports. Additional screens there would have to be oriented into the hoses or they'd be crushed against the screens in the ports and possibly damage them.

Correct there’s more filtering area when they’re pointing outward into the Fossett, they don’t really fit if you put them in the other way anyway.

Inlet hose washers with screens
The washers with screens only go in the end of the hose attached to the supply faucet.

The baggy comes with 4, I want to put them on both ends if possible. Redundant protection is in my DNA, lol.
I wouldn't recommend using them at both ends, it will restrict water flow. It's something I tried about 14 years ago when I was using them at every junction on all of the hoses connecting to my tempering valve and machine. The water valve already has one to begin with. The screens do come in a variety of fine and coarse meshes, I use a really fine mesh screen which works well but they must be checked semi regularly for buildup since they naturally catch more junk.

Ok, so the Whirlpool hoses have not shipped yet (Whirlpool says they are running behind, anything appliance manufacturer sucks today), and I couldn't resist same day delivery on Amazon. So yahhh, until the Nylon hoses come.
