Good day folks.  I need some assistance. My Kenmore 80 Series Heavy Duty washer is finally needing a transmission. It was somewhat weak when I started using the washer about 8 years ago. Any mild overloading would cause it to pop and slip. I've been extremely careful to load it lightly, however it's requiring more and more "babying" not to slip.

I am asking if anyone has a transmission they are willing to sell? It can be a "repairable" used part, or a good one. I need something I can recondition and then swap into my washer to minimize down-time; as opposed to removing mine, developing a repair process, doing the repair, and then putting it back in. Thanks again for anyone who can assist. If you have something, please send me a message or e-mail.

Sincerely,

David

Yes finding one to rebuild and swap out is probably the best thing to do. It’s an ‘83 model built the 29th week of ‘84. These particular machines were bad for the spin tube seal failing and due to the low center post would cause water to fill the gearcase. Regardless of whether this is what happened or not that seal needs to be replaced when the gearcase is swapped out. I have all the faith that you can keep this machine going with your mechanical skills.

ebay seller pfesales

The ebay seller that Melvin posted, I've had good luck with them for other parts in the past. A few years ago I sourced some vintage parts for my Frigidaire agi-tub laundry center, among other parts, from them.

I bought a transmission from the same eBay seller, worked but the oil that spilled out of it whenever I laid the machine down was quite contaminated, took it apart not too long ago and appears it was in a basement flood at some point and one of the gears has a date code of 1977. Going to be packing that one with cord head grease which is designed for machinery such as farm equipment which when agitated and moved around is like a heavy gear oil but turns back into grease when it settles.
