I decided to check out a FL Neptune. I got it for free, because it has motor issues. So I have the repair manual and the motor sounds like a chainsaw and will not ramp up to full speed on the spin. So I know there is either a motor board or motor issue. I did the motor test and after unpluging the J wires, it still sounds the same. Does anyone know, do I have a board issue or a motor issue? Thanks.

All of the above

Chances are your MAH4000 still has the orig. motor board and motor combo. You cannot get the old motor or motor board anymore as they have done a upgrade to the system that came with the LATER model MAH55/65/75's. Depending on your model/serial number combo, that noisy/bad motor may be covered under the ten year part warranty that motor came with. The motor and new control board come together in a kit P/N 12002039. This is a good thing to do. The new motor control comes with a line filter to protect it and the board really built better. I could cool my turbo diesel on with the heat sinks alone... The motor is also MUCH quieter. I upgraded my MAH4000AWW with the kit and haven't looked back. When you do the fix, make sure you replace the old Dayco belt with a new Hutchinson sourced belt.

Model and Serial Number Coming Right Up

Drew, thank you, I would love to get this going.

Here are the numbers:
Model MAH4000AWW
Serial 40299932WF

Mfg in March, 1999. Not currently showing registered. Do you have a sympathetic factory servicer over there? If so, they should be able to warranty the motor with the kit. But do so QUICKLY as you are right up against the 10 yr. part warranty by date of manufacture!!! Let me know if you hit any snags...

Update for You on Service for Neptune

Drew, I need your advice on my next step. I contacted the local repair center. They would charge 87.95 trip charge and 96.00 per hour for the labor, which is understandable. I asked if I could bring it to them they said only in home service. New details. I am officially unemployed due to cuts at Macys. I really want to fix this machine because I have wanted a FL for years to do bedding etc for allergies. Is there a way to contact Maytag to send in the old parts and have them send me the new and Do it myself? What do you think?
Thanks Drew.

O.U.C.H.!

You can try to get Maytag to send the kit to you. I've seen weirder things. They currently will not want the older motor/board combo back. I carry that kit on my rig so it's only a $79.00 service call to take care of it here. I may send you an email later...
