I acquired a Neptune MAH4000AWW, yard sale for $20.00. I was told it ran but didn’t drain. Hooked it up in my driveway and ran a cycle. When it got to rinse, the pump made noise but nothing happened. Pulled the pump apart and found a 2” #6 flathead machine screw wedged inside perfectly positioned to neatly trim off the blades. $20.00 later to a used appliance emporium, the expected geyser erupted. The machine ran through the cycles including high speed spin. I couldn’t get an accurate hand tach reading, but it was bouncing around 800 RPM. My question regards the wash cycle. It will start a rotation accelerate and stop for a period of 6 / 10 seconds. It will delay for 20 / 25 seconds before a reversing cycle. A video from the early Neptune lament era showed the running and the dwell time to be about equal. Is the long dwell time normal for this model, and, if not, what do I do about it. My son has a stacked Neptune pair either a 3 or 4000, so I have a spare wax motor if needed, but I haven’t had time to go over and compare notes.
Two more years and we graduate to Imperial. Tom

is the 'stain cycle' button pushed in?....this will add delays to the wash portion....it basically stretches out the cycle...even adding portions of 'soak' compared to a Normal cycle......

the RPM of the spin should be around 1000RPM.....but it does seem for the 4000 series to hover around 800, sometimes backing off a bit to reduce vibration...

if yours doesn't have the updated wax motor installed, its best to do it ASAP before it blows out the mother board.....but the 4000 should already have been updated...the correct one has a black tip, if its brown, replace it!

Thanks

Thanks Yogitunes;

The stain cycle was engaged. I’ll try a load following the laundry room resurrection project. The pair at my sons has the early panel minus that switch. I was not familiar with its function. I’m aware of the notorious wax motor from my sons’ used set about 6 years ago. I ordered one before I looked so now I have a spare. I suspect mine is updated, however I will confirm. I have always been impressed by Maytag but never owned one until now. I recall the Neptune début around 95 and kind of desiring one. However, being cheap and without taste, I stuck with the 1986 Kenmore 80 yardsale set I had collected about 5 years previously. 11 years later, I found his 3000 series stacked set for $75.00 and set it up. An internet search for the manual reviled its devastating history as well as the following song. It’s been working well for about 6 years now. Meanwhile, my 28 year old Kenmore set has performed flawlessly until Wed Aug, 8. The cold water valve didn’t close and filled more than the washer for a couple of hours. The repair was easy, the 26 years on wet concrete kind of finished it. Removing the set gave me access to repair the 60 year old dry wall, which, when removed, reviled 7 feet of missing framing. I am now into the second month of a complete rehab of the Southwest corner of my house. Had I bought the Neptune 20 years ago, I would have a lot more chances to do repairs.

For those of you who missed it, (I hope this works)

Hilarious video!

Thanks for posting the link--I needed a laugh!

Good luck and great $20.00 score!

Service docs I have indicate 800 RPM ±50 for MAH3000, MAH4000, MAH5500 and MAH6500 (LED button).

1000 RPM ±50 for MAH7500 (LCD touchpanel).

Don't know if that's all correct, just reporting what it says.

Neptune has returned to his layer.

Thursday the final grout course was laid, Friday the back wall was painted and today the washer and dryer was installed in their rightful laundry room positions. The Neptune has performed flawlessly through a marathon wash event to recover from 6 weeks of dirty laundry. Thanks again for pointing me to the soak cycle. The only issue is a noisy belt. If a little belt dressing doesn’t help, I’ll find a new one. I will start a new thread regarding the state of the art of dryer vents. Suffice it to say, I would like to be closer than 6 ½” from the wall. I’m now on the watch for a matching Maytag gas dryer.
I shall celebrate with a toast and the Neptune Wax Motor Song, Tom
