Never saw a Maytag one of these before...

Yep!

This is one of the Maytag ironers I think was actually made by Maytag.

Later on, they outshopped their ironer manufacturing to Ironrite, essentially just re-branding Ironrites as Maytag machines.

My mom had an Ironite - used it til Permanent Press shirts and blouses were common...used her right knee to
actuate the roller down. I haven't seen an ironer like this since .....
she either sold it or donated it (1970's). This sure brings back a lot of memories.

Am Almost 100% Sure Maytag Didn't Build This One Either

Maytag, Frigidare and Conlon ironers all had the same looks about them right down to the 30" roller and controls.

One says this because the various patents listed on any of the above serial plates most always refer to those held by Conlon.

Ironrite Built Maytag Ironers

Back when eBay was "young" someone was selling two "commercial laundry" gas heated ironers. Similar looking but one was Ironrite and the other was branded Maytag. To this day am kicking one's self for not purchasing one or both to put aside.

Not sure if either was sold for domestic use as gas for heating ironers in that setting was supplanted by electric by the 1930's in most areas.

When I looked at this, I was reminded of the Bendix ironer so there might have been another brand to add to the list of rebadged Conlon-made ironers. A woman I worked with had one of these that she claimed was trapped under some shelves built around it in her basement. She was kind of ditzy so it may not have been trapped, but if the builder of the shelves was as ditzy as she, it probably was.
