The surrogate mother

Amana was the first and longest running design to breath new life into the bottom freezer concept. Her genetics are under the drawers of almost all the American brands. You'll love it.

That's a very good price! I stopped at our ApplainceSmart in the area, and they didn't have what I was looking for.. (same as you in Maytag or Ammana)

Fopund the site tonit be very user friendly. I'd select a brand. Then it would have 2-8 pages. I'd click on the next page number or the increase arrow, I'd end up back at the beginning of the whole series of whatever I was looking at--ranges, dishwashers, ...

Very nice - there was one in almond just like this in a condo I cleaned up the other day. I'm totally sold on the bottom-freezer configuration despite losing a bit of efficiency. I have the counter-depth KitchenAid side-by-side now which is a very nice unit but I hate the narrow compartments and still miss my Sub Zero bottom freezer.

I just love new refrigerators - so clean and great smelling. Enjoy!

I bought the same model (ABB2222) in Bisque a couple years back. So far there are no issues except that the "deli drawer" doesn't seem to get as cold as I would like it. Mine was built in Newton, and was alleged to be one of the last of those before production moved to Mexico. Around the time I bought it, I also got an ice maker on eBay for very little cost. There were several to choose from.

Thanks, everyone!

When I rolled the old KM out to get ready for the delivery guys this morning, there was a TON of insulation on the floor. Yep, I think I was cooling the kitchen more than keeping stuff cold inside. The particle board in the back was totally disintegrated, so I wonder if the cooling fan was sucking air from behind the frig rather than from over the coils which lead to the build up of ice in the freezer compartment. Besides that, when I took off all the "refrigerator" art, the paint was chipping off, allowing rust to build up underneath and mold to grow on top. It was really a mess. Plus, I notice this morning that the frige section is noticably warmer. Looks like I did this justin time (Justin Case's cousin). Glad I bought this while I am still employed (I was laid off on July 29, last day Aug 21, fairly good severance package).

At ApplianceSmart, they had this Amana next to the exact same Maytag next to the exact same WP Gold. The ONLY difference was the door handles and the sticker over the controls. The WP was $1K, the Maytag was $850, and this was $599. The communist controlled Energy Star sticker says this will cost me $49/year, the lowest number on their sticker scale.

Meanwhile, my steal of a frige arrives. I'm watching the delivery guys take it off the truck, roll it up the driveway, take out their appliance lifting straps and carry the frig into the house. I guess those hokey TV infomercial appliance moving straps really work. They did this effortlessly (but frigerators are generally light).

They get into the kitchen, put it down, start rolling it into place, and -- lookie there! There are 5 dents on the showing side, looks like a mini-bombardment on the hood of a car after a shower of hail. I'm sick. They couldn't have done this on the other side which is up against the wall? I know that the guys didn't do this getting it from the truck to the house. It must have been the goons that got it from the store to the truck. This thing was perfect at the store, PERFECT! Dammit!

@jason: You are so wrong for that.

@petek: Yes, I vacuum the coils on a regular basis -- you kinda have to with 11 cats. I use the hand nozzle from my Sharp upright because it is long and thin.

Amana

I got an Amana 22 bottom freezer unit from a customer who wanted our Conserv model instead??? Anyway,it's ten years old and has the swivel doors. I don't personaly prefer the slide out type but sold thousands of them at lowes when I worked there.I had this same model when I lived in Orlando,Florida but it had the ice maker already. This one is ready for one but I prefer not to. It's just another thing to go wrong. I am not the lazy type and keep at least 20 pounds of ice cubes available at all times. The original owners never sent in the warranty card. So,I filled it out and sent it to see how they respond(if at all) to my warranty card.

That's why they should look first...

When we sell and deliver them, we unbox them at the shop and inspect before arriving on the cust's d/w. We see dents, scratches and, yes, the occasional *dropped* unit in a virgin, damagefree box. Box 'em up and send 'em out to help the number shipped target (allegedly, of couse...) We've also learned to plug them in overnite a) to make sure the thing's not a DOA and b) the customer LOVES getting a cold refrig as they usually have a dying unit with food in it.

We sell that model of Amana and it's been a good unit for us. You'll enjoy it alot.

I so want to finish the last sentence of your last post, Peter, but I won't. LOL Enjoy your new fridge. I'm sorry about the damn dents, that's so maddening, but seems you made a good choice and good buy. I will make a similar choice when the time comes. And it's the big one too, which makes it an even better buy.

Sounds like you've had the Kenmore for a good while, so I'm sure your bill should go down a bit with any luck, and if paint is peeling and things disintegrating, I'd say you've gotten your money's worth.

They have those stores in Minneapolis and my sister has bought stuff there when she lived there. Not sure if we do here or not, I'll have to look.

One day not long after I moved into this apt. I had my cleaner out, and decided to check under the fridge. I mean to tell you everything was completely coated and the dust came off the coils in sheets! Yuk.

Peter, my 19 c. ft. Kenmore lasted 2 months shy of 27 years of faithful service. It had the flex-tray ice maker. Sorry about the dents.
