Since my "Maymana" laudry pair purchase was aborted based upon the recommendations of those here in the know, I now must go to Plan B. For laundry, I am considering Speed Queen (with a front load washer with heater), Maytag Epic or Bosch Nexxt 500.

I'm also considering a new dishwasher purchase. Is the third rack in the Maytag Jetclean III beneficial or should I go with the Jetclean II with the totally integrated controls? Or should I avoid Maytag dishwashers altogether and get something else.

Any and all advice appreciated.
 
I think the 3rd rack option is quite deceiving. You are limited to a very few items to put down there and they can't be very tall at all. The middle & upper rack designs are such that you are limited as to what you can put where--large plates can't go on both sides of the middle3 rack without interfereing iwth the spray arm for the upper rack and that includes adjusting the upper rack. Same with tall items in the upper rack. Frigilux and MayKen4Now are both thrilled with their two rack Maytag products. Other sugestions would be a Bosch or a GE tall tub with stainless interior.
 
I love my TOL 2-rack Maytag (model 8591)! Cleaning is spectacular and loading is amazingly flexible. Build-quality seems very good. My dishwasher gets very, very heavy use and it hasn't given me a moment's trouble.

Not as quiet as a Bosch, but certainly not noisy, either. Highly recommended.

I'd avoid the 3-rack models. As Bob mentioned, you'll lose a lot of loading flexibility.
 
I can't speak to performance or reliability but I really like the idea of a 3rd top rack for the silverware instead of the basket/caddy at the bottom like most DW's have. The rack on top pretty much eliminates any "nesting" problems and I feel the spray is more direct for better cleaning. Just my casual observance after house-sitting for some peoople who have a DW by either Bosch or Miele that has one of these top racks.

For a clothes washer, I'd avoid the Speed Queen. From everything I've been hearing, the quality is good, but the wash cycles are so short that they simply don't get clothes adequately clean. I used one once at a truck-stop laundry when I was on the road (a coin-op version of the residential machine). I wasn't impressed, and the spin was rather anemic compared to the other machines. I'd go with a Duet HT (actually I did, and couldn't be more pleased). For a dish machine, stick with Whirlpool. Maytag is now owned by Whirlpool, so they are probably a good bet as well. My Mom has a 2-y.o. Whirlpool and loves it, and she has a late '80's Maytag in her vacation home which has done well.

I think you should just forget the current sh** being produced in the 'States at exorbitant prices and either go vintage KitchenAid or Miele.
Bosch is also not a bad choice, if overpriced.
Sadly, what was once the leading nation in automatic household equipment has become a leading producer of junk.
Current domestic white goods are only built to last for a few years.
But for just a bit more money, you can have a Miele that will wash dishes clean without pre-rinsing, save water and energy and either go with you when you move or increase the value of your place if you leave it behind.
First thing I took out of my new Miele was the third rack. I just prefer having the space to put large pots and pans in the upper rack, too. Which you can, since the cleaning action is outstanding in both.
The only thing which speaks against Miele (or Bosch) is that they take substantially longer than good GEs to get things cleaned. I don't mind, clean dishes and no scrubbing or pre-rinsing (and not having to do pots and casseroles with baked on stuff)is my priority.
Oh - even grits and oatmeal are no problem when you use enzyme detergents.
All the Maytag recalls of the last weeks mean you need to be sure you get one which won't catch on fire...but that can happen to any brand and I don't think it is fair to blame Maytag for it. I have seen Siemens/Bosch/Constructa, AEG, Philips and GE also have recalls in the last years for similar problems.
 
Tumbler, brand new Speed Queens have been put on their web site with larger door openinngs and much longer wash cycle times (24 minutes for regular/cottons).
 
Dishwashers....

I have a Bosch and would recommend it highly except I'm still having issues with its rack configuration. It's a bit more European in nature and doesn't have quite the capacity of a standard American dishwasher. Still, it's a great dishwasher. It's pretty quiet and does a great job of cleaning.

I saw an LG stainless D/W at Home Depot a while back that seemed to be a pretty nice (although a few members here have had some pretty bad experiences with LG). As an interesting sales technique, the salesman put his cell phone in the dishwasher, shut the door, and called his number. You could barely hear it ring. I suppose the wash cycle is just as quiet. ;-)

Bosch~

I agree with Retromom on the Bosch. I too have a Bosch and it doesn't have the capacity of a Maytag or GE Profile.
What issues are you having with the rack configuration RM? I have to order a replacement part already because my racks rotate and it broke off. Hopefully its under warranty!
Very quiet though and cleans very well.
 
Bosch configuration issues...

If I put a glass baking dish/pan in the lower rack (towards the back of the d/w), I can't fit two sets of dinner plates in the d/w. The plates I use are curved/bowled versus flat, so they tend to kind of flop all over the place. The space on the sides of the d/w (on either side of the door) is not wide enough for a baking dish/pan either; just for another plate ot cookie sheet. Some of the spaces in the lower rack are rather large, and a small bowl will go right through it! It would also be nice if the silverware basket was bigger.

As far as the top rack is concerned, you can't put glasses and small bowls up there together (gasp). It's got to be one or the other. While I like the idea that the glasses are set up on a slant (to drop off excess water), they will rock around if you push the rack in too fast. I usually put cups on the right side of the upper rack, but again, I don't feel that it holds nearly enough; maybe three or four cups. If you have guests and use lots of coffee cups, there better not be anything else in that upper rack. I also feel that the tines are too long and you can't really rest anything on them unless it's a tall iced-tea type glass.

Ok, enough complaining. While I would rather have my 1975 Whirlpool portable as my daily driver, I am stuck with the Bosch for now. It does have some good features; a good and quiet wash, choice of wash cycles, stainless steel tub, and a sleek design. If that tub were just a bit deeper.....sigh
