New Coffee Maker

Gary, is the self-clean light supposed to come on when it needs cleaning? Interesting... I don't have the book for it so I was just guessing that it needed to be done now and then. The people I got it from always used bottled water for making coffee, so there was little likelihood of any lime or gunk in the machine, and it wasn't used for long either. They go through coffeemakers pretty quickly - mostly the "look! another shiny object" shopping syndrome.

Another question, is there supposed to be a water filter in the black tube on the left side of the water reservoir?

Yes the self clean light turns on when it needs cleaning. I live in the country and use well water which I also put through a Brita filter so there is very little calcium in my water which is why I haven't needed to clean it yet. And yes, on the left side there should be a black removable tube inside which the charcoal filter resides. I looked on the Cuisinart web page and they have the instruction manual for this coffee maker.

Thanks, Gary. After I posted that the other night, light dawned on my marble head and I checked out their website and found the filters, etc.

Now I'm actually going to have to make a pot of coffee and drink some!
