New commercial Maytag TL and dryer

Right off the truck Tue 6-27, 3 current Maygag (not a typo) toploaders, one frontloader, 4 dryers.  Early observations:

 

One TL already has 'out of order' sign on it; infamous Maygag coin rejector.

 

The one I caught running, lady pushed "hot" and "eco".  Water was stone cold, all 3 gallons of it.  Took as long to fill with a puddle as the old ones took to fill all the way.  Good thing she only put a couple shirts in it.  Hope she wasn't counting on getting them rinsed.

 

Possible the installer reversed the hoses, but they 'did' test them and should have caught that.  For that matter, isn't 'wrong temp' supposed to throw an error message?

 

The instructions are scant.  There is a 'heavy' cycle that takes twice as long, but the guy said that, the lid didn't.  Panel does say 'deep fill' on the non-eco cycles, have to see what that amounts to.

 

One dryer was running.  Unbelieveably LOUD.  ROARing.  If you had one of these in or near your kitchen, you couldn't hear the phone, kids, TV, flatware in the disposer, NOTHING.  If all 4 were running, we're talking threshold of hearing damage.  Unless you fled the room in anguish first.

 

So now, did I misinterpret the marketing?  Isn't Maygag the top-line, and the commercial model the best of the best?  With the same gutless coin-slot the old ones had.  Harrumph and scoff!

Sad to hear, I was actually considering the dryer. The fill time I do not understand, its just ridiculous. At least its nice to know these fill all the way for the rinse on the none eco cylces.

Do you have pics of the agitators btw?

I otta getta cam, cheap ones are cheap these days.  Agi is low-profile, reminiscent of wringers from days of yore.  Deep tub, slender diameter. 

 

Dryer #1 is defective.  Caught D #4 running and it was quiet.

 

Coindrop in TL2 is defective.  No spring return on the button.

 

Caught cycle end on the FL, pool of suds standing in boot.  She had run extended cycle but did not select extra rinse option.  Unknown detergent type/brand/dose.

Whirlpool needs to step up their game, two defective machines is unacceptable assuming customers were using these correctly.

2 defects out of 8 machines, 25% failure rate out of the box.  That's abysmal. 

 

Not counting the suds residue.  Most all machines under-rinse, and no telling how much of what she dumped in there.  It was a Bobette load and she probly overestimated the soil level.

 

Unlike the Neptunes where one hasn't any chance of judging/adjusting detergent dose, these do have a 'window'.  However, in classic style-over-function design, the view through the inner glass is obfuscated by a smoked-plastic outer decoration.  And of course, door is locked PERIOD, though water level is well below window/gasket. 

 

I'll have to try a flashlight through the smoke.  Then one would start with a minimal dose, add if needed through the drawer, and chase it through the plumbing with a gallon jug.  I've done that with my ElectroFrigiWhite; at least the view is unobstructed.

 

Maybe I should postscript that these washers are not my problem.  I use a 4yo Chinese twintub.  Bit of a chore, but get exactly the results I want.

Our local small town laundromat uses Maytags. My wife is in charge of personnel where she works so she launders the uniforms there as we won't run them in our own machines.

The FLs are constantly leaking and the dryers sound like jet engines. We always have to step over a puddle or two coming out of the smaller front loaders for no apparent reason. You pick a dryer and hope you get one that didn't sound like a jet engine, about half of them are like that.

I've only ever gone to the one other laundromat near here, they have Dexter, Milnor, Speed Queen and Whirlpool machines and they seem to have far fewer issues.
