Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

whirlpool currently has 2 wash platforms, the removable filter model and the clean water wash model. the removable filter one I believe has a variable speed pump though I may be wrong, and is also on kitchenaids lower end models, as of the last time I checked. I don't know if any whirlpool branded machines use the clean water wash system.

Egress is absolutely correct about the spining tube under the 3rd rack on the KA and is the reason whty I would pick the KA over the Maytag. In fact, that spinning tube is actually considered an additonal level of spray, so KA has 7 spray levels vs 6 for any other 3 rack design. And WP has their own model at TOL too. If I had to pick one, it was always KA and mnot Maytag.

Angus I don't blame you for being dismayed about that sales guy persuasion/deception. Yae Applance out of Boston has YT cleaning results videos and KA is just behind the Miele & Bosch for cleaning performance. The GE is a very distant 3rd or 4th place and in my books, quite pathetic. My Bosch never ceases to astound and suprise me.

I"m not sure I"ve commented about these two videos befoe or not, but here goes. That first one, who cares if the bottom spray arm can spray water all thje waay to the top of the tank. It's empty, nothing in there. How about reality instead, I want to see how the different spray levels perform when the machine is loaded as intended. The same with Andrew's video. YEs, it's nice to see the different levels to see the patterrns. But now I want to see real world performance, I want to see how those sprays look with fully loaded racks. That shows me how the currents drench each item in each rack.

I thought the SAME THING immediately...it's empty. LOL.. Even still... I'm impressed with the way they wash... I had no clue until seeing that video that there was a freaking rotating spray arm...

One thing: As I was watching the lower spray arm work.. I noticed there was a big gap in the middle where there is no spray and I wondered... WHY???

Also...I have a question if anyone wants to give their opinion... If you're in a home with white appliances that are pretty old, would you slowly replace each one with a different color.. It would feel so weird to have a stainless dishwasherer, but everything else white...although stainless would match white.. like slowly replacing each when needed until you ultimately have all stainless

I do have a stainless countertop toaster/ Blender already so..

I have a miss mash of appliances in my kitchen and over the years I've gotten much less anal about it.  Way back in the late '80s when I redid the kitchen, I fabricated panels for my SxS fridge  and the DW. Put in a bisque gas cooktop and a black wall oven. Well 4 or 5 years later the fridge died, replaced it with bisque. Then the DW went replaced with bisque. Color went well with oak  cabs and the light countertop.

8 years in the fridge died again, was able to still get a bisque unit. Years later the DW went, no bisque so went SS.  Cooktop top died, went SS. Currently the fridge is still bisque, DW  is SS, cooktop is SS ( at the moment, soon too be black induction) and the wall oven is black stainless. It's a large kitchen so nothing is close to each other, doesn't really bother me.  I did buy  SS fridge a few years ago with the intention of swapping out the bisque unit, but I much prefer the interior of the current fridge over the new one I bought, so it stayed in the garage.

I was VERY worried about the large space in the middle of the spray arm as well. However, as long as the dishes are largely placed correctly and there are no pots facing down in this area, the top rack spray and overspray from the bottom rack covers those dishes completely. I have never had any item come out with any soil on the first or second rack. Just a few spatulas or plastic spoons with either grill scrapings or rice on the top of them after being washed on the third rack on the right outer corner. Just not enough spray coverage there. But these soils pick right off.

Huge capacity, new KitchenAid dishwasher

Has everyone seen the video where whirlpool compares this to a top-of-the-line Bosch and two different ladies try to load identical loads into both dishwashers?

Lady with the Bosch dishwasher and up with a whole counter full of dishes that has to be hand washed it’s an impressive demonstration.

We still build the best dishwashers in the US, I got talked to working on a Bosch dishwasher on Monday. What a flimsy piece of junk. It’s the third time the guys had trouble with it and it’s his second Bosch dishwasher only reason he bought a second one was because he wanted to reuse the custom wood panel , next time he will put in the KitchenAid with a stainless front the wall oven is stainless steel anyway.

I wouldn't call it junk..

I bought a Bosch dishwasher about 3 months ago and so far everyone here thinks highly of it, every dish has always been spotless. It is the Bosch 100 Series Premium, the lowest priced model that had controls on top, the large handle and the third rack on top for the silverware. With the basket on the bottom rack too it holds a lot of silverware which I like. Even so, it cost nearly $900. I liked the style of the unit, the KitchenAids seemed too "funky' for the kitchen and Consumer Reports, the first 10 units are Bosch.

The Bosch is a bit small so you are right about capacity but with only 2 or 3 people in the house it works fine for us. Some of the plastic items are a bit wet but they were for every dishwasher we ever had. I don't understand how the drying is supposed to work, the water is supposed to condense on the walls but there is an insulation blanket to keep heat inside the machine so how can that work? It does though.

The Speed 60 cycle is what I use the most and it is enough most of the time. If there is something like a lasagna pan I use Auto which takes longer but I know it will be clean. I find I can barely hear the dishwasher with just a rumble most of the time.

My gripes are that I wish it would light green when it is finished (just has a red light that goes off when finished) and even thought I read the manual I still can't figure out the racks when loading. Have to play a guessing game how, I guess German cups and glasses are smaller.

Bosch replaced the previous dishwasher, GE Artistry which had a failed heating element. This failure caused that dishwasher to smell and there was scum growing in the filter which did not before. It also had broken racks, rust on the outside, and noise when draining, after about 6 years so that was the end of its life. It was also flimsier than the Bosch is.

Racking

Racking is just such a hit or miss thing.

There's probably a few hundred thousand kinds of glasses, cups and dishes but only like half a dozen of DW racking designs in current production.
There will always be some dishes that won't fit.
That's one of the biggest and stupidest tricks I learned from this site: If you buy a new DW, it really is the best to grab one of each kind of dish and take it to a store. See if things fit and how.
At least if you really are afraid something might not work.

I recently bought my partner a new DW.
The old one was a Vestel made one and was very BOL and thus pretty noisy for our standards over here.
I bought him a new one - also Vestel made - and I thought well everything fit in the old one, it will in the new one.
The new one has a cutlery tray as a third rack, but his glasses always had plenty of space. But they hit the 3rd rack by just 2mm, like maybe 1/16th of an inch, if not 1/32.
It still works, you just can't slam the top 2 racks shut.

Stuff like that always happens, you'll never be 100% sure.

A-men to the "take your dishes to the store". Now that supply chains have been restored and we HAVE choices, it's the best way. There is nothing more annoying over the life of a dishwasher than having racking not work for your dishes.

Our 10 yr old cheap Bosch (plastic tub) fits 80 percent of our dishes magnificently (it's racking seems perfect for Corelle or other coupe designs), with actually very narrow racking for bread and butter plates/saucers/salad plates and perfect racking for their bowl design, yet everything is clean. We do have some Dansk that has too much of a lip (so is too tall) to fit as comfortably, but leans forward only slightly precariously. Also, everything gets clean.

The thing that doesn't quite work so well are tall, deep chili/chowder bowls, but these aren't everyday dishes; more like every couple of weeks dishes. They don't need to sit flat to get clean, but there isn't a good place/way to put them securely on edge. I've figured out that they can get tilted toward the back of the dishwasher to save some space/utilize some height.

Bought an expensive Bosch 800 (3rd rack, all stainless) during 2022 and haven't been as happy with it as expected...was forced into it by supply chain issues and it just -doesn't- fit things quite as well (albeit our dishware at our 2nd house is not the same as in our house here in Michigan).

WP has always had a rather large spray gap in their lower arms. It’s perplexing but somehow has negligible impact.
