So my new DU945 is in and it's a bit quieter than the last one and it's nice having not having the center tower so I have a lot of room in the lower rack. I'm getting over the idea that there are fewer rinses in every cycle, but I'm curious to know what people think of the silverware being in the door? The first two loads came out clean, but when I take out the silverware rack from the door, there's always water between the door and the silverware basket.

I've always felt that silverware in the door was a brilliant idea. But, you need to load properly to achieve good results. I always tell customers to load flat dinner plates in the front of the rack so the water can get through to the silverware. No big bowls, or anything that will block water flow.

Proper loading

Yes, I was conscientious in the first few loads to make sure there was some clearance in front of the silverware, and things came out clean.

NEW DWs DRYING ISSUES

The plastic parts of any new DW don't dry as well until the machine has been run through many many loads. Wetting agent will help but this has been a compliant with new DWs since they first put in plastic silver ware baskets and plastic coated racks in the 1950s it will get better with more use.

There was a recall on this machine a few years back. Many people do not remove the basket from the door and never noticed it was wet back there. Over time, a thick layer of black mildew developed. Testing of the mildew proved it was toxic and fatal. One entire family died of black mildew toxic shock. It wasn't pretty as the mildew waits until the middle of the night and then explodes and grows over the entire house. You need to call Whirlpool and request the special vented anti-black mildew toxic shock gasket that goes around the basket between it and the door. Let us know what they say.

Nasty Mildew

That nasty Mildew is responsible for several home invasions in to Atlanta Area. Something should be done about it.
