I picked this up at the Family Dollar Store today - I'm quickly becoming a detergent junkie.  Had NEW!, Original Scent, was a powder, and "Suds Action" plastered on it...so couldn't resist!

Sure enough--got some suds out of it...and it has a GREAT old school smell - not sure how well it cleans, but hopefully it will retain the scent through the dryer.

Anyone else use this yet?  Made by Proctor and Gamble - although it took a while to find that on the box.

Fail in the dryer for the nice scent.  Oh well, back to the 80s-ish Dynamo smelling Target Up and Up for the bedding.

Detergent Junkie

I'm right there with you Dan.  I picked a couple boxes of the new FAB powder.  The smell is awesome and does stick with through the dryer.  Plus, it is front loader friendly.  My local grocery store had it buy one get one free.  Got 2 boxes for 1.98 each.

If this keeps up, I will have to add another shelf to the laundry room for detergents alone.

OK, now I feel better LOL...................................

Malcom and Danman, my two favorite AW friends, I was in Stop&Shop last night, walking down the detergent aisle looking at the MASSIVE selection of liquid detergents, and the puny selection on the top shelf of small boxes of powedered detergent, both were predominately Tide. I go out of my to go to Wally world, or Tar-jea to buy my powder Cheer, and liquid Cheer. I wish I could find some Bold Powder, or Fab Powder, or All Powder, or Dash Powder....you guys get it LOL....but I love laundry detergents, and the various scents. i remember when it used to be the other way around, powders outnumbered liquids. I thnk my favorite liquid smell of all time had to be the original P&G brand "Solo", second was "Surf," just the names alone were interesting to me. Liquid Tide original always smelled like a petroleum / gasoline product to me. Wisk was ok, and All was just blagh!!! LOL Any thoughts my friends, on my aforementioned comments??? LOL

Finding FAB, ALL, Bold and Dash powders.....

Fab powders seem to be around here in several stores. One has three of the four scent varieties, and as Malcolm said they are often inexpensive and I too have seen them bogo. I have seen Fab powder at Wal-Mart, and for folks w/southern addresses, Bi-Lo and Lowe's Foods have it.

I don't have a clue if Dash is available at all. Last time I asked P&G years ago they said they had discontinued the brand. It surely could have been sold to a re-brander by now like Sun or Phoenix brands, however I haven't heard anything about that.

All Powder seems to be making a comeback. With the newly concentrated powders, All and Surf both have enzymes in them now. All powder can be found at Wal-Mart and Walgreen's, as well as at Food Lion for you southerners.

Bold powder is in limited distribution by P&G. It is nationally stocked by Lowes Home Improvement stores. It can also be had online at PGEstore.com.

The only place I've seen Era powder here is at Family Dollar, quite cheap too at $6 something for a 50 or 60 load box.

If anyone knows of other places to buy, let us know!

Dash and others mentioned..

Dash is still a P&G brand being distributed and sold to only European and other countries at this time. I doubt re-marketing it in the US will happen (but Tide HE powder is still here, and the scent really reminds me of vintage Dash, along with Dash's famous low suds cleaning).

I'd like to try the new Era powder, as well as the Fab and even Ajax (if I could find it). However, a few people on here have already experimented with these new formulas and products and given them a hefty THUMBS DOWN TO HELL!

Because of this, I'll spend my money on something I know is more reliable.

another detergent Junkie here

Hi Malcolm,

can you please take some pictures of the FAB powder please.
I would be so happy to see it.

thanks,

Ingemar

I have used ERA a couple times but not enough to make a judgement. It is indeed sudsy. I'm a little concerned it might not rinse out well. Will observe further.

Where I live, Family/Dollar/General are good stores for selections of powders. I got some Surf and it has a nice scent that I like. Haven't tried Fab or Sun powders yet. They're next on the list.

Era

I have used it. The liquid version, anyway. I found it to clean pretty well, even for a liquid. Smells alright, too. I line dry almost year-round, and the smell was slight after drying. I have mechanically softened water, and sudsing was not an issue in my Miele or Filter Flo, when used with the minimum dose. Normally, I am not a liquid detergent user, but when its cheap, and I have a coupon, you can bet it is going in my detergent stash.
