Hi Shannon, Great looking machines, I do love the LCD display.

All of the Maytag and Whirlpool DD machines are full imports. Once Maytag owned Hoover, Hoover became the cheap washing machine brand and Maytag became the very expensive option. IE TOL Hoover $800, TOL Maytag $1400. Maytag has all but dissapeared from AU now, however the Whirlpool machines regularily retail in TOL form for $899. The Neptune Machines cost as much as a High end Miele.

Maytag has been in AU since 1980 or so and Whirlpool DD since 1991.

F&P developed that machine and got a 4star water consumption rating, thus it is eligble for a govt rebate when purchasing. There is some controversy about it getting the rating, as when the eco programming is turned off, its no better than any other top loading machine.

But good on F&P for trying to remain competitive. Apparantly the Refridgeration Plant here in Brisbane is laying off staff now, as 1/3 of their manufacturing goes to the US and due to the US recession, there has been a big dip in the purchase of the imported machines.

Apparantly the F&P Washer manufacturing has already left AU for the sunny shores of Thailand.
 
The Aquasmart is kind of a weird washing machine because it shows you a smiley face when you turn it on and tells you "Have a nice day." when the cycle is done.
 
The High Efficiency Option uses heaps less water and with it off is still decent... It still is more water efficient than our top loader... I too love the LCD screen... When washing it has a little animation showing what it is doing, The cycle title, it flashes through selected modifiers, time to go and a progress bar.

Our Maytag was manufactured in America... Not sure exactly where though... Its pump always got clogged with lint... Every 6 months we had to disassemble the control panel and replace a fuse otherwise it would not fill... Its drive system was consistently playing up... Often would start agitating slowly and only reach full speed after 3 loads of laundry...

Toggle.... As for another top-loader... From people I know about 8/10 people have NON high efficiency toploaders... AquaSmart along with the new Electrolux WaterAid are (to my knowledge) the only High Efficiency Top Loaders available in Australia... The only real top load tumbler was a KleenMaid (I believe made by Brandt). KleenMaid at the moment only have toploaders by Speed Queen and Frontloaders by Gorenje... Back to the point... High Efficiency Top Loaders are new to Australia... About a year old now I believe... people are still skeptical about them and from what I have found out would rather get a frontloader than a HE top...
 
Nope... When it turns on it says "Welcome To AquaSmart" and the AquaSmart Logo... When it is finished it says "Wash Finished. Have a nice day"... No smiley faces in sight.
 
With the controversy about water rating... i am thinking most people would not actually pick the cycle very much... I think that most people would just use regular (HE) and press start.... I personally sort laundry out and use the sheets cycle, hygiene cycle, duvet cycle, whites cycle, blanket cycle, coat cycle, whites cycle and regular cycle... I have found that Heavy Duty (HE) for towels works wonders...

As for the water rebate... I am not eligible... Cheap scabby country town with brown water oozing from the taps... That should also explain why we don't suds save...
 
What's weird about that? My IWL12 has been doing that for three and one-half years. It has other cutesie icons for water level sensing, fabric sensing, wash, soak, rinse, and spin. And a bunch of menus for cycle selection, options, and diagnostics.

Ah! In the last mouth Electrolux launched the new washer (full size) in Brazil with exactly the same way for re-use the wash water.

What kind of usage did your Maytag have on a day to day basis?

I bought my mother that very same model Maytag in 1994 and it's still going strong to this day...has only needed one service call and that was for a rusty lid. She washed for 4 people maybe twice a week and is probably doing more now with my sister and nephew living at home.

I will say the main flaw i found was the mistake Maytag Australia made by fitting electric pumps in place of the mechanical pumps which led to lots of "suds lock" depending on what detergent my mum used.

Sounds like you got a "monday" or "friday" model to me.

Congrats on the Aquasmart: considered one for myself.

OK Now I must ask to see a Maytag with an electric pump, if you please. It seems counter-intuitive to me to introdce yet another 240v item for an export machine in a country that uses 120v. In other words, a 240v electic pump and motor probably not a readily-available "stock" part.

Why on Earth would Maytag do something like that? Is there any reason they needed a neutral drain? Would a 50hz motor of sufficent torque have to be larger, and therefore not fit in the available space?

From what i have been told by a Maytag repairer, the reason they fitted electric pumps to the "Dependable Care" line was to "try" and reduce the instances of Lint staying on the clothes.

Personally, i hate the neutral drain of these machines and much prefer the spin drain. Remember, the model before this still had the spin drain and when they introduced the "Performa" and "Atlantis" some years later, they were all spin drain.

I don't think it had anything to do with the motor etc.

As for a pic...maybe Shannon can provide one? Otherwise, i'll take a pic of my mum's on the weekend.

Hi Shannon,
A really great looking machine,well done!, tell me do you prefer the traditional agitator action like your Maytag?, or do you like the pulsator type action of this one better?.
When we bought our large top loader a few months ago, we also looked at this one,but mainly due to price affordability we ended up with the 8.5kg L.G.which I must say has not yet let me down.

DADoeS, that was a pretty interesting video. But why was the washer making filling sounds during the entire cycle? Was the display on demo mode or somthing?
