NEW Fisher & Paykel Washers

Seems Fisher & Paykel benefited from their Whirlpool partnership .....

all new designs (more WP Cabrio like) but still F&P design language
some improvements ...

new tub looks smother, refined and well designed (holes also have what seem to be spines on the outside most likely to catch lint ( so we will see if the link issue is solved)...

higher spin speed 1100 RPM ...

the wash plate got a redesign not a major overhaul but a tweak non the less
seems the fins are taller in this iteration and they got slots in the fins could be to catch/ scrape lint off

the controls have gotten a significant improvement and a nicer clean look

overall i think the WP partnership was good since they could have used WP as a Guinea pig and improved their machines cuz lets face the the Cabrios had alot of kinks to iron out and im sure F&P used that info to improve theirs even the Direct drive motor seems to have been tweaked

I hate those blades!!! They tare up fabrics and get scratches on them from belt buckles, zippers and many other metal clothes parts. The LGs/Kenmores/GE Harmony's that have the all stainless steel impellers smothen as the metal pieces go across and they are a lot quieter.The perfect example to prove this is to compare the amount of lint in similar loads in each of the different models (incuding front loaders) that accumulates in the dryer. You'll see much less ,if any, lint in the trap. What does that mean??? It means your clothes are getting worn out by the vigoris activities from severe oscilating of a vertical agitation as well as overloading that is more comon in top loading agitator washers then front loading or impelling top loading washers.Prove me wrong.

Wonder when they'll launch in the US? I really hope they keep their TL dryer in the mix - I'll be in the market for a new set around Christmas and that dryer was a major reason they were on my short list.

I don't care for "slotted" lower agitator vanes,either-when the washer is in use-the blades can tear items.and when you are unloading items-occasionally they can snag on the vanes.Esp large items.Both cases I experienced-a KN DD "Shredmore" and a Maytag "orbital" guess it was that-the one with the fast short strokes---"ShredTags"I had several shirts get shredded-was worse than the KN-Found the slots under the lower Maytag blades were-like a blade----SHARP-Smoothed and sanded them down-less of a problem then.Like the older Slower,long stroke Maytags better.Hope I don't create a monster here-just my experience.The Maytag washer went with a home that I sold.

Basket perfs have been punched through from the inside, leaving the outside with an extrusion, for years.  That is not a new design.  My 1999 GWL08 is per such.  GWL03 service manual describes it "... lint and wash water are sucked into the agitator stem and down to the base of the agitator, where they are directed into the cavity between the basket and tub. The extruded holes in the basket are shaped to allow the wash water to flow back into the tub, but prevent the lint from following."

Spin speed has already been 1,010 RPM for some while.  It's marketed/described as 1,000 RPM, but Diagnostics indicate 1,010 is reached (unless maybe Diagnostics is wrong).

Searching for relevant terms finds reference to QuickSmart, WashSmart, FabricSmart (agitator models) on the NZ market, and CleanSmart HE.  QuickSmart & WashSmart are equivalent to the current EcoSmart (QuickSmart has a few less features).  FabricSmart is equivalent to the IntuitiveEco, with automatic fabric sensing for agitation speed and pre-programmed LifeCycles.

The agitator vanes are designed as such to be flexible.  "Springy-ness" and flexing interaction with the load provides rotational-inertia feedback to the controller board via the SmartDrive motor for automatic water level sensing and to trigger slight variations in the agitation pattern.

IntuitiveEco and FabricSmart further use the feedback (via test agitation strokes at beginning of the wash period) to determine a suitable agitation profile (speed and stroke arc) for the load.  IntuitiveEco & FabricSmart don't provide a choice of fabric cycles (Heavy, Regular, Delicate, etc.) ... the user simply selects from a choice of 6 soil levels and the machine sets the agitation speed (and wash time per the soil selection) per the sensed fabric mix of the load.

They have to be designing those DA type agitators pretty badly if stuff is getting torn. (though, these days, anything is possible)

I've never used an orbital Maytag with the DA agitator though, and most of you already know of my nothing-but-positive experiences with the DD DA agitators.

All I can think of is overloading or, yes, I do see the occasional thing about some kind of burr left on it that was causing problems. One of my neighbors had that problem, and after he filed it off, he has had no problems since.

would like to see what they did with the new top load dryers my guess is they uped the capacity to 7.0cuft instead of the current 6.2cuft models and did some improvement on the bearings , lint system that give the old one issues

There's no physical space to increase the drum size unless the cabinet is enlarged.  A minor engineering revision has already been done on the filter system.  What "issues" have you heard?

filter mesh getting holes , link getting trapped in various places of the lint assembly .. thats y some recommend cleaning it out to avoid the reset-able fuse from tripping and cutting off the heat ..... i think the bearing would also need a revision and yes they should increase the cabinet size a bit for a larger drum

It looks like Fisher & Paykel has posted the washer on their USA website.

One of the interesting features is that you can turn off the "high efficiency" setting to make the machine use more water and do a conventional immersion wash.

Nice to see that the dryers have a Reverse Tumblel option - otherwise, they are sourced from GE, right?

 

HE on /off has been an option ever since the HE models came out, I think. Even with HE on, they seem to do a good job moving the load.

I didn't realize the older Fisher & Paykel washers had a high efficiency off setting.

Fisher & Paykel have some videos on their new washers on Vimeo. It seems like they designed these for the U.S. market.

Specifically, they gave the machine a sturdier cabinet and lid to increased the perceived quality... And they simplified the interface.

Too bad it doesn't look like it has a water heater.

Thanks for the fascinating video

I thoroughly enjoyed watching your video of the Fisher & Paykel Aquasmart. They are wonderful machines. However, I still prefer the post agitator as opposed to the plate.

My F&P Aquasmart is over 6 years old and I've loved the machine. It performs beautifully. No problems so far.

My salesman tells me that the top load dryer is gone. Regulations require that the dryers be made so that if there is a fire, it would be self-contained. They can't figure out how to accomplish this new requirement in the top load version. The dryers are going to be made by GE.

I'll never understand why F&P has always been bashed by the media and members of AW. Their equipment is superb. I have the dish drawers, and they perform and clean as well as any dishwasher I've ever owned.

The video was enlightening. Thank you for taking the time to make it and post it.

reasons for going back to a regular dryer i suspect
1 lager capacity can be achieved
2 alot of ppl found the top loading dryer wierd

Fire Containment

Having watched a video of the top-loading dryer "sealing" itself shut prior to operation, I am stymied at how there is a "lack" of fire containment - especially when I modern dryer would end up burning itself to pieces anyhow. More metal construction and fire-blanket materials (Not asbestos...) and a drum containment are any number of measures I can conceive.

Could they not employ smoke/chemical detectors in the input/exhaust of the machine and an emergency cut-out and "fire bottles" to stop a fire caused by abuse? That seems simple enough, but perhaps impractical and costly (not to mention it could ruin clothes!)

Their TL dryers have also been discontinued in Australia, it seems. Such a shame, considering just 4-6 months ago they were...

At this point, I'll also agree with "Easyspindry" regarding reliability and performance of F&P products, being owners to some (and knowing of) other products in use. I agree that the Dishdrawer washes considerably well, and moves plenty of water around. It can do a substantially soiled load in just 60 minutes (if you cancel drying on the Delicates cycle) - and still do a shockingly good job (and not redistribute soil).

i guess it was not viable and the self cleaning lint filter was awesome i think they could have changed the design a bit i wont mind getting my hands on one of the top loading dryers the new one is nice and keeps the reverse tumbling + larger capacity would have been cool if they kept some sort of auto lint remover
