I have a friend in Florida whose front load GE has quit.

He has a issue that years ago when the machine was installed, he had cabinets and a counter top installed around the machine.

That said, he is limited to a 36.5" height restriction.

I Googled "36.5 inch front load washer and found one at Sears.

Who is making this machine these days, and would it be OK ? He lives alone but has house guests frequently. So, for about 3 months the machine will get some good/fairly heavy use for sheets and towels. Some of his laundry is done professionally but under garments etc will be laundered at the house.

I will continue my search. I suggested Miele, Speed Queen, and Maytag but the height is what is preventing these machines from being considered. He really does not want to have to re do the laundry.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

That particular Kenmore front-load washer is made by Frigidaire/Electrolux. They are a decent machine for the money. If it is not abused it should perform well. I had a 2006 Frigidaire Gallery model that I was very pleased with. Passed it along to my son and daughter in law and it is still going strong 11 years later.

Thank You... What about these ???

I was chatting on line with a Sears Rep. He told me all FL washers are made by Whirlpool. I told him I beg to differ and then told him about AW.org.

Hi Louis,

Thanks. Mr. Eugene (Lorainefurniture) had high regards for LG in thread #73396 Whirlpool vs. Samsung...

"Lg really slapped most American appliance companies in the face. They make a superior product, that lasts longer, AND it’s cheaper. Let’s put aside for a moment the currency difference and labor.

Whirlpool has been riding on its own coat tails for years now. Their technology is behind lg by at least 5 years.

Lg came out with a dual evap fridge with a linear compressor and took the market by storm. Whirlpool slaps some pos version together and it’s like they forgot how to braze back at the factory. Ge just said f it and slaps their badge on a Samsung unit. Frigidaire is such a disaster on so many levels that I can only hope they go out of business.

Anybody ever try and get warranty service on one of the 3 American companies? Ge is 3 weeks out.

I had a power surge at my house and it blew the board on my lg fridge. I called at 8 am Friday, the guy was out by Noon THAT DAY. It was fixed by noon Saturday. That’s Service.

Instead of tariffs whirlpool should devote more of their resources to engineering and build a better product."

I will keep that in mind about what he said as Eugene does impeccable restorations.

If they get an LG make sure to tell them to get one with Turbo Wash. I made the mistake of buying the BOL LG a few years ago, without Turbo Wash and I felt the loads didn’t get properly saturated many times, because it was so parsimonious with water. Turbo Wash would assure complete saturation.

I just ordered the wm1388 for a customer. I’m pretty sure the washer has a water plus option too, which dramatically improves the already good performance of that washer.

I own the larger version of this, the wm3770hwa. I also have the accompanying sidekick washer.

Eddie, even I will admit the LG is the best.  The other two don't even have an onboard heater to maintain or heat wash water when needed on certain cycles.  An onboard heater is essential in front loaders.

Louis, thank you.  I didn't see anything about Sanitary or steam clean option.  Thus, assume no heater.  Didn't see anything else that would indicate a heater.
