What new grocery items can you think of with old packages or dates?

I bought Great Value orange juice from Walmart the other day which I never have that I recall but I happened to notice the carton had a copyright date of 1995. To me the carton design didn't look that old, but maybe.

Another I can think of is McDonald's honey packages haven't changed in decades and neither has their jelly packages. I think they honey says 1983 and the jelly maybe 1992 or so.

Can you think of any others?

Lund's Swedish Pancake Mix

Not only a great package, but I won't even consider any other kind of pancake. It's like the difference between a wonderful Krispy Kreme doughnut and those hockey pucks they sell at Tim Horribles...err, Hortins.

Just off the top of my head --

Because I haven't purchased most of these (except flour) in a while.

Kingsford Corn Starch?

Clabber Girl baking powder?

Bell's Poultry Seasoning?

Gold Medal flour?

Carmine,

I had pancakes at a restaurant last week, and they were like rubber.
I make my own batter, but I will try the Lunds.

Carmine,

When you make your own, try separating the egg, making the batter with only the yolk, then whipping the white and folding it in at the end. Light and fluffy!

p.s.- Chicken Of The Sea tuna? Kraft shaker (wanna-be) cheese in the green can?

Carmine,

I do that for the fluffiest waffles also.
I make an oatmeal pancake with no egg, and dried cranberries also. 1/2 cup flour, 1/2 cup oatmeal, a pinch of salt, 1/3 cup skim milk, 1 good teaspoon baking powder, 3 level tablespoons of canola oil. Vanilla and or cinnamon if you like.

perc-o-prince,

For the record, the idea is NOT to get light/fluffy pancakes... Those are the kind I don't like. They soak up the syrup like a sponge and feel heavy and "cakey". Lund's gives you something between a crepe and a regular pancake. But I appreciate the advise!

Some of the other products mentioned (like Campbell's soup or Arm & Hammer) probably haven't changed because they're so identifiable. I'd argue they have had slight updates. I think the McDonald's packets, or the Lund's pancake batter have simply continued unchanged by inattention. Here's an example... It's a casting mark and the letters stand for Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge, DeSoto. Yet I've seen this mark on parts made into the 90s... 30+ years after DeSoto bit the dust. Somebody at the foundry just didn't see a need to update the mold.

One of my favorite products that's changed very little over the years is Tabasco sauce. The only noteworthy changes I can think of were the addition of a bar code and a screw cap. If you could somehow transport yourself to a market in 1930 you'd find the Tabasco bottle very recognizable. Even in this ad from 1904 it looks very familiar.

Church & Co.

About the only things that haven't seen changes on Arm & Hammer baking soda boxes over the many decades are the arm and the hammer.
