New Front Loader Time (whirlpool?)

Hello,

My rental house needs a new washer and dryer so I'd like to take my 2007 Duet Sport set and put it there and get a new Whirlpool set for myself. My Duets have been great, never had a service call and they were on a ton when the kids were small. I really like whirlpool (obviously) and I've kind of been out of the game a bit on washers. Are the new whirlpools really whirlpools (like my 07 sport) and are they good? Any model suggestions? As always I completely value your thoughts!

First of all

I'm definitely not a washer expert like some of these people here, but I have learned quite a bit over the years reading, etc. My Duet is 10 years old. Glad to hear yours is still running. I'm almost positive that if I were going to get a new washer if something happened to mine, it would be another Duet or Whirlpool Maytag front load washer, but I would make sure it has all the cycles because some of those cycles use more water. I'm not sure which model I would get though. I think on these new washers some of them have an allergen cycle, you would want that cycle because I'm pretty sure it uses more water, and obviously make sure the washer has a heater (sanitize) option. They get GREAT reviews from what I've seen.

Is Whirlpool Whirlpool?

You should rather ask what's not Whirlpool. Whirlpool, Maytag, Amana and some others completly base on the same FL platform. Made by Whirlpool.
Thinking about it, Everything FL wise you normaly get that is not LG, SQ, Samsung, Electrolux (and in consequence Frigidaire) or GE should be made by Whirlpool.

I'm not sure who on here has a "new" Duet. But model wise, I'd take care it has a heater. And from there on, one should get what one can get. If you get a good deal on a certain model and feel it has everything you need, get it.

Mine is about 2 years old.  It was one of the first that Whirlpool sold that were produced here in the US (wfw97).  It's direct drive, no belt like on your Sport.  I personally don't believe in washing in cold water.  The cycles I use are Allergen (for hot) and bulky items (for warm) and a slower rate of tumbling for clothes of various types.  For kitchen towels and food stained textiles, I use the extra hot water temp.  And I use hand wash for delicates.  I do not use the Normal/Casual cycle because it uses the least amount of water.  I find the machine to be extremely flexible and offers several cycles that do allow extra hot.  The stain treat (deep clean) is also available for several cycles.  That heats the water from luke warm to whatever temperature you have set--warm, hot, or extra hot.  This is excellent for very bad stains and you don't have to pretreat.  I  don't mind that the cycles are long when needed.

We have the new whirlpool wfw72hedw. Its around 7 months old and it works great. Everything comes out clean the first time around. I also noticed it doesnt dumb down the temperatures on the normal a whole lot. And other cycles, there is no dumbing down even on quick wash. This works way better then our old top loader even on the normal cycle which does surprise me. Its had some hicups but they have not returned in a very long time. On ours, the "eco sanitize with oxi" cycle but it has no heater. I think the slightly higher 81 model does have a heater. On this cycle the water fills up and covers the whole bottom of the drum and as the cycle progresses, it adds more. It almost looks like what you would see in a laundromat. This is the longest cycle out of all of them and it does a great job. IMHO, the new duets are amazing. The deep rinses are actually deep. Everything comes out clean the first time. I hope to get atleast 5-8 years out of this.

Ok, I have the Brastemp Duet (same as Epic Z - Duet Sport on United States), and my friend has a Bratemp Ative (Same as Duet Direct Drive). This last model is too interesting, the cycle times are very flexible, wash quality and spin speed are amazing. I have only one cons: the spin balance. The washer spins very well but spends lots os time to speed up, my old duet model needs a realy short time to make the same. The video on 1:15 shows the balancing. In general is a wonderfoul washer.

if anything with FLers or HE machines......the lower the Tier EER the better.....

there usually is 3 tiers from what I seen in the past, 1, 2, or 3....the higher the tier the better energy efficient, but also the lower amount of water used....

my suggestion is to try and stay near Tier 1, at least it will use sufficient water for washing...

The ONLY problem with LOWER TIER is you don't get cycles that use the most water! I thought the same as you but from what I understand, the TIER ratings are only based on the NORMAL (Government) cycle, and not the other cycles that use a lot more water. If you get a BOL machine, you may not get those cycles that use the most water. You may get stuck with normal, delicate, heavy duty and that's it.

I'd recommend checking out LG front loaders when you go shopping. Their 3570 is a great machine and a good deal when it goes on sale. Best Buy, Lowes and Home Depot carry that model, and Sears has a very similar Kenmore made by LG.

Our new duet is a Tier 3 yet it gets everything clean the first time around on the normal cycle and it does use a good amount of water. You can see big water drops coming out of clothes as the drum turns on the normal cycle.

Whirlpool needs to start following the leaders and making their front loaders with an accessible button catcher. Currently,if you're not an authorized Whirlpool service tech., and you get caught removing the front panel to access the unit because it's in need of maintenance to remove lint and any foreign objects,our warranty becomes null.and void. I asked a local company that services FSP and they said they do it to make more money.on service. What ??????????????????¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿

Actually, I believe that. Why else would they NOT put a lint access pane there? But then again, the other companies do things to make more money I'm sure too. They all do. But not having that panel there is so stupid I've always thought.
