Well, the good news is, except for a small technicality which will be resolved, the legislature just extended human status to us in New Hampshire.
The uncertain news is, the governor may veto it. He doesn't have to, New Hampshire permits him to ignore it and it becomes law.
The bad news is, the Republicans again voted 100% to deny us human rights.

I can live with that.

Well the senate has voted in favor of the bill. 13 - 11. Close vote, now it goes to the house and if it makes it thru there then onto the governors desk. Not sure which way he will go on this because he feels that since we have a civil union law in this state that all areas have been covered, such as health insurance and all benefits allowed to hetro married couples. There is a large gay presence in our capital. Everyone is behaving nicely. No protests or haggling. Just making there presence know. So will have to wait to see what happens here.

My prayers are with New Hampshire...

And I say my prayers, because as many of you know, the Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of New Hampshire, the Rt. Rev. V. Gene Robinson is gay and partnered.

He must be under a lot of pressure

On the one hand, recognizing a fundamental human right will guarantee him gay and lesbian support forever.

On the other hand, um, is there another hand? I mean, politicians don't really believe all the Christian stuff, they just talk about it 'cause it brings in the votes.

Keep us abreast of the news, please! If he vetoes, Maine may well fall. Rhode Island will certainly be lost.

But if he just does nothing or even signs the bill, wow!

Gosh! What a month!

The house passed the bill this afternoon

It was a relatively close vote but it was passed through the NH House this afternoon. It now goes to the governors desk tomorrow. He is under a lot of pressure right now to sign it or just let it pass. Maine got approval today also. Lets see what happens tomorrow.

Latest Update

The governor of the state has said he wants some language changed in the bill in regards to religious issues. If these changes are made he will sign the bill. I am sure the changes will be made and he will sign. Will let you know what happens.

If it takes

kissing the asses of the christianists to put some spine in the governor's back, then let's just hope they've wiped them thoroughly first.

Honestly, do these fundamentalist Christians even bother to read the Constitution and Amendments thereto before they trample it?

Oh, right. Silly question.

Withdrawn.

Hehe Panthera . . .

there you go again just like Perry Mason, withdrawing the question when the point needs to be made but feathers can't be ruffled.

Let's hope the "traditional marriage" crowd proves to be like Hamilton Burger: lots of noise and fury but always loses in the end!

Hi Hydralique,

I've been wanting to say that for a while.

Yeah, I know. If they actually gave a flying fish about the US Constitution, we would already have our rights.

Raymond Burr was gay, by the way. Surprise, surprise, surprise.

Gosh, what was the name of the hot cutie he kept around after he ditched Stella and picked up the wheelchair?

Yum.

OK,

The senate just signed off (14-10, honestly, the Republicans are beyond hope).
Now the house, hopefully today - and then we will see if the governor meant it.

Be groovy if he did. Two days ago, Washington State granted us full rights, albeit Civil Union not marriage - but with an explicit sentence in the law that legally it is the same.

It all still amounts to nothing until DOMA is repealed and the feds start recognizing our human status. But this keeps the pressure up.

Any folks in NY know what's up there?

and now back to committee

Because a gay Republican decided he didn't want to be bullied.
Sigh.

I really, really resent my status as a human being serving as a ball for politicians to play with.

Tell me again why christianists should be permitted to make the rules in our society?

lOOK YOU GUYS, I'M A HAPPILLY MARRIED STRAIGHT MAN. but I have many gay freinds, which by the way, I hate the word GAY.It places a stigma on people. stop the name calling please America. If a man or woman loves another man/woman, then let them be. It's not the governments business to come to your house and break you up. Excuse my language but FUCK EM AND FEED EM FISH HEADS. ANYWAYS, THERE ARE MANY SO-CALLED GAY PEOPLE IN CONGRESS JUST COVERING UP IN HIDING IN THEIR CONGRESSIONAL CLOSET FOR FEAR OF LOSING THEIR PENSIONS AND REELECTION. mY ADVICE FOR YOU GUYS WHO HAVE COME OUT AND ARE PROUD TO BE SO-CALLED GAY IS TO EXPOSE THE RATS IN CONGRESS OF THEM BEING THE SAME AS YOU. tHEN MAYEBE, JUST MAYBE, THEY WILL LEAVE YOU ALONE AND LET YOU LIVE YOUR LIFE AS HAPPY AS YOU WANT TO. JUST MY OPINION FROM A STRAIGHT GUY. i DON'T THINK YOU CHOSE TO BE SO-CALLED GAY. i THINK YOU WERE BORN THAT WAY. SO I WILL LEAVE YOU ALONE. sorry bout the caps, i'm just that passionate about it all.

Well It's finally over

The governor just signed the bill a few minutes ago making New Hampshire the 6th state to pass gay marriages! Nothing ever goes thru fast in this state but it's a done deal at this point. Only 44 more states to go for everyone to have equal rights in marriage. Yeehaa.
Jon,

Incorrect, Keven. 6 states have now legalized gay marriage. So, 44 to go.

Maine,Vermont,Connecticut,Iowa,Massachusetts and New Hampshire recognize us! With the exception Rhode Island being the lone New England hold out. Shame on Rhode Island!

Born that way

You are right, my friend Ellen is a Funeral Director and is also a teacher here of Mortuary Science. She said they can tell from an autopsy that this case was a gay person. Why would anyone choose a lifestyle that we were some sort of cancer of humankind? My mom said when I told her that I'm gay, She said "who molested you"? Never happened, guess I was the ugly kid, So you ARE born that way.....Bill in Az.....
