Well guys ive let go of the vintage machines i had and got a new kenmore set. So far they are working great.

What a piece of junk. Very high number of failures on a washer design that is just 3 years old. I think the shift actuator will soon be the most replaced washer part in history. Almost daily requests for help in other appliance forums on these things after a year or two of use, right after warranty expiration. Some parts are so high in cost, users just trash them. The landfills are filling up with them.

Congratulations on your new machines, we have generally had very good success with these new washers.
Yes we did have a few frustrating repair calls on a few and we even replaced two for customers who did not want to wait for repairs [ we fixed both the trade-ins and sold both with no problems ] overall I would rate this new design washer as very successful.
When you consider that WP has built MILLIONS of these washers over the last 3+ years and our service company does in excess of 4,500 service calls per year and we have worked on less than 10 of these washers I think that speaks very well of this design.
I could think of several newer appliances that are much more troublesome than this new washer design. John

I didn't know that they have been on the market for three years. I must have missed that.

Well i did have a problem when i got them. The wires going to the motor wasnt pluged up nut i fixed that myself, its worked great ever since and im happy with it. It is a high effency waher so he detergent but ive noticed that using the heavy duty cycle it fill near full soive been using what i had left of regular deyergent. I did buy a 3 yr service plan for them and will renew that at the end of three yrs. Over all im very satisfyed. Im not letting the negitive thoughs of others on these get me down.
There's a private group on another appliance forum that I participate in with a thread titled "The new VMW's (or the sad replacement for the direct drive, may it rest in peace)". The thread is up to six pages long and outlines many of the problems with these washers. Tech's consider them "cash cows" because they are servicing so many of them. Iv'e serviced several of them and I only do washer repair on the side. These things are very cheaply made.
Acquiring new appliances is always a reason to celebrate! Hopefully your new Kenmores will give you many trouble-free loads. Enjoy your new washer.

It may be a bit confusing, but the red check mark is similar to "like" on Facebook.
The "report" button above it is a separate link.
If you hold your cursor on top of the symbol, a pop-up box should explain what the purpose of the symbol is.

Report and Like functions
Depends on which browser as to whether the explanatory tooltips appear on the Report and Like icons. I don't see the tooltips in Firefox.
The Report/offensive button appears only to upgraded members ... so that kinda furthers the confusion that the red checkmark is a report/offensive function when it's not.
The Like checkmark (and click-count) appears to everyone but is functional only for upgraded members.

I'll fess up, I was the initial "like" on Eugene's post. Happily I see the count is up to three now.
His comments were the "correct" response in regards to the original post. It was affirming and hopeful, both characteristics I enjoy about this group. To simply post that a machine is "junk" (rightly or wrongly) when opinions aren't being sought isn't helpful.

well it's almost been 3 years since I bought these. so far so good. but if I want the machine to fill with the right amount of water with out damaging the clothes, it take over an hour to wash a load. I have an old direct drive in storage at my mom's that I'm considering getting out and make a daily driver again and put the new one in storage. the one think I like most about this new washer is how fast it spins out the water at 700 RPMs. but the direct drives spun at 640 RPMs so not much difference.
