If you remember back a couple of months ago, there was a never-used Kenmore portable dishwasher on ebay. I had it delivered to my sister's garage and they brought it with them Friday night. It truly was NEVER used - packing still in the machine, racks taped together - it even smells new! I haven't run it yet, I almost hate to use it since it's so perfectly preserved. The funniest part is, the warranty card that came with it specifically states that it has a full one-year warranty from the date the machine is put into use. It says nothing about purchase date, I wonder if Sears will honor it?

Yow!

Other than the color (ours was white), that's the EXACT dishwasher we had when I was young(er). Got it around '72, if I recall.

Enjoy your treasure, Greg!

YAY for D&M and Roto-Racks

WOW Greg, even more beautiful than you described!!! And with a "night-light" over the buttons as well! Definitely factory fresh for sure...I don't know if I would use it regularly, but I would try it at least once! I still can't believe the plastic is still covering the butcher-block top!! Definitely the DW find of the year!

I'm partial to the D&M design, even though the Whirlpool design is a close second...would love to find any vintage portable Kenmore DW and hear those glasses clinking again!

A trip down memory lane. This was the one we had in Houston. Ours was Harvest Gold.

Kenny, can you resurrect your microwave stand?

OMG OMG OMG!

Wow Greg:

This is even more fabulous than your description! I had no idea it was a roto rack! It looks so factory fresh! And lighted controls on a portable dishwasher....how cool is that!!!

And to think....your nephew and his wife said it wasn't exactly *mint*! Did they mean "mint green"? LOL

I absolutely love it! I know it's going to be tough, but you have got to try it out!

Wow Greg! That was the exact machine my folks had.

I am not going to tell where I was in school when they got it though!!. Always a good performer. They even had it in that Avocado. I guess they thought it was the closest match to the leftover Universal Waste King wall oven and cooktop and Fridigdaire refrigerator in turquoise that my mother had. You can just imagine what that kitchen looked like. Anyway, dad finally built it in. Congratulations. I know what it is like to want to use a machine that is new, yet you don't want to ruin its newness. What a connundrum.

Smell-a-vision

Wow Greg, that is just beautiful. There is nothing more exciting than a MIB Vintage Washer or Dishwasher! I don't think I would be able to use it either, at least for a few weeks or so. Too bad you can't somehow record the new "smell" and upload it to the net for all of us to enjoy.

Greg,
This is so beautiful!
One of my favorite dishwashers!
I agree with Robert. Wait a few weeks to run it. When you are feeling blue, or just tired, go and open it, and put you head in it. Take a big inhale!
I am so glad that you found it! I never would have thought that there was a MIB dishwasher like this one!
The dishwasher is for you right? If it is, I think that you should put it in your kitchen. Give the KA a rest for a bit.
Can't wait to hear your reports of how it performs.
Thanks for the pictures!

Greg She is Beautiful!

That is a great find! Roto-Rack and all! Now you need to get to measuring...And send those measurements to Robert and get one of those Fabou Dishwasher windows installed! Now that would certainly be a treat!
Seeing this one in such great condition gives me knew inspiration to work on the one I have, very similar to this one. Maybe this can be a winter project for me.
again congrats!!

NEW Kenmore Dishwasher

Greg,
This is a real awsome dishwasher. They just don't make anything with the quality today like this was made. Its great you were able to get it in new condition. Are you going to build it into your kitchen? Can't wait to hear the results after you take it for a spin. Best Of Luck.
Peter

Congratulations, Greg! And GREAT shot of the controls. I wish more members would follow your lead and give a clear picture of the controls when they post.

Does anyone else remember the display model of this dishwasher in Sears w/ the glass cabinet all lit up and washing? When I was a kid we always had to go in the appliance entrance at Sears so I could see that dishwasher.

Jeff

Greg,

My aunt in Philadelphia had the same model dishwasher in white but built in. I loved it. When we would go for holidays I was the one to get to load it. Great find. She always used "Finish".

Hope you do get a glass front. I use to love going to the Sears store at the mall and watching the Roto-rack demo washing away.

Mike

I loved going to look at the display with the dishwashers running too. But, they never did have the required full amount of water in them, drove me nuts, so you never got to see the real fire power of the dishwasher.

Fantastic find

Congratulations Why do they not still make them? Tried & true. I would have one in a heart beat again. Enjoy & do not worry, It does a great job, one of the best machines I ever owned. If I only knew then what I know now. Michael

Speaking of smells. I always remember running a dishwasher left a particular detergent smell you could notice as soon as you walked into the house,, anyones house actually where a dw had been recently running. Either I'm used to it now or the ingredients have changed because I never notice it anymore.

Greg that machine is just beautiful. I can understand you problem with running it for the first time. If and when you do you must really make it a "special occasion" I sure do remember that new dishwasher smell as well. There is just nothing like it. New dishwashers today don't seem to have the same scent. I love that light over the controls. Makes it look even more special. Have fun. If you do contact Sears be sure and let us know what they say. I am sure they would really be in shock. Terry

What a beauty!

Greg--Enjoy.

I love the lighted controls. If that isn't the TOL portable, it was darn near.

Pete, that scent, especially with dishwasher detergents, was probably an attempt to cover the chlorine reek in the old chlorinated detergents. Cascade Complete's scent is pleasant, but nothing like the Cascade scent of 1973 (when we got our first dishwasher.)

What a great find.

Exact dishwasher in my chilhood, as well. Bought in 73/74.
Built-in with panels kit for wood front.

ah memories.

Still remember those amazing lights! The dry phase blower alwasy rattled on mom's. Had to add a wooden shim underneath.
