Hello, I have a 15 years old Estate DD washer That goes into a spin when it starts to drain, but not all the time. is the transmission starting to go?. All so the lid is rusting near the hinge, and is about to break off. Washer still runs good. Thinking about buying a new Kenmore Belt drive, but the reviews are not that great. What do you guys think? Thank You.,

As a first guess, I would say the neutral drain assembly within the tranny is broken or on its verry last leg.
If you want a TL, I guess, it would be better to go SpeedQueen.
Yet, some people on this forum said the WP full fill TL washers are average and one member owns a WP build model and quite likes it. (Kenmore only buys washer build by diverse manufacturers like Whirlpool, LG or Samsung for example.)
But (again), I would considder a good FL, for example, a SQ or a (way cheaper, yet, not bad) LG.

There's no harm in continuing to use the machine with a malfunctioning neutral drain mechanism until (if/when) something more major goes wrong.  Perhaps you could find a used lid in better condition, even if a different color.
