I would have to say that the performance of the JennAir is very goo it does have its drawbacks. You can't have a very tall or wide pot on the stove nor can you easily pull long pasta out of a pan of boiling water. The oven kinda gets in the way. It's taken time to adjust but my motto has been (in regards to this remodel) "Form before function"!!! SHHHHH...Don't tell Chuck this :-) He's the practical one!

Hey Guys,

Hope you are doing as well as can be expected at this trying time!
The d/w LOOKS fantastic....
Back then, hot water was 140-160 degrees............can you say SCALDING???? Today's enzyme detergents are meant for 120-130 degree water. You might want to try a chlorine based detergent like Sunlight powder or powerpacks. The powerpacks might dissolve slowly and last through the second wash. (Is there a second wash)???
Do NOT use liquid dishwasher detergent.....not enough phosphates....don't clean as well even in a moderm machine. Hope to see you both soon!! Mom is home and doing well. Things are back to semi-normal...whatever the h**l that is !!

John, yes there is a "2nd" wash. The timer dial is divided into 4 main sections: Regular wash (which is the wash which happens after the initial purge). The next section is something like short wash, light wash, or china. That's anotehr "wash". The next section is Rinse & Dry. That consists of two more fills for rinising. The last section is dry/plate warmer. To use any of the otehr cycles, you turn the knob to the right until it stops (kinda like on a push-button Lady Kenmore). Then simple push the fig fat dial in and it starts with a drain. then the purge. Then the fill for the detergent wash. I don't rememember exactly, but there oculd be a 1-minute rinse inbetween the first wash andd the 2nd wash phase which begins at the short wash section. Rich & Chuck, I believe this version has a small power shower spinning from the top of the tub. This model was the first restyle of the initial Frigidaire dishwasher. And as pointed out,t he top rack is a little bit differently arranged, not quite as dep as Robert's 1956. Part of that is due to the row of bowl or small plate tines across the very middle of the top rack. Chuck my best suggestion is to keep angling the glasses, think of that spray as fimply fanning out from the center. The examples above are good. Also do not put larger things in front of smaller things. An example would be that large mixing bowl in the picture above. Think of one that's slightly smaller. The instruction manual says not to put something (like coffee cups) "behind" that bowl on the far outside of the rack. But, something like coffee cups or measuring cups could go on that far outside edge of the rack "behind" glasses. It's going to take some getting used to. Rich, you're pretty much repeating just exactly what I heard housewives complain about glases out of this machine in 1963-1967. Like I said above, I somehow had a "knack" for loading everything in the top rack such that that they told me glasses looked betterr after I'd loaded the machine. And it is fun to just sit in front of the machine while it's running, it's very soothing and peaceful. Wish y'all didn't have so much going on in your lives right now, would love to have y'all send me some pics of loading patterns. Hugs to ya both and y'all are in my thoughts & prayers, as are your families. Bob

Thanks John!!

We are doign OK. Just very tired :-)

We are glad to hear that things are getting back to normal for you and mom!!! We hope to see you very soon.

I will trty the tablets in the DW. As you know, our water is scalding hot so maybe we'll try a chlorine based detergent. Thanks for the tip. We'll report back when we try it.

I believe this version has a small power shower spinning fr

Could you be thinking about the Mobile Maid? Our Mobile Maid has the Power Shower in the lid. It's a small twirling arm. It even says on the arm and front of Dw "Power Shower" The Frigidaire has nothing on the top. The only water comes out of the spinning tube.

I have tried angling the glasses at different degrees with no real difference. I'm going to try not letting the glasses touch each other. This should cause the water to circulate better. I will post some pictures of the load that we just did. Perhaps you can see where we could improve the performance.

We'll report back :-)

<Hugs to ya both and y'all are in my thoughts & prayers, as are your families> THANK YOU!!

Hugs to ya both and y'all are in my thoughts & prayers,

OOOPS!!

This is what the "THANK YOU" was for. I didn't read my post before sending!!

Also...thank you for the info :-)

Rich

Better results!!

I spaced the glasses and cups that are in the top rack plus I tried Sun Light power packs with great results!! 1 or 2 spot on one glass and the rest were perfect!!!! Thanks for the suggestion John :-)

Rich

hey perc-o-prince great dw!

great dw enjoy by the way we have that same(exact) ge washer that you have next to the dw, do you have any problems with it?

happy dishwashing LOL, Vintagesearch

Hi Randy,

We haven't had any problems with it. It has worked just fine and it gets a lot of use. No complaints here :-)

Rich I pack glasses into the top rack of my Frigidaire DW and I never seem to have a problem with spots. I use Cascade with Dawn in all my vintage dishwashers, these Casecade packs seems to clean better than any other detergent I have tried in vintage dishwashers. The packs dissolve within the first few minutes of the wash cycle, I have the clear demo door so I've seen it do it in action.

I'll try Cascade next. It seems that if the glasses aren't just right and the stars are not aligned then I get crud stuck to the glasses. I am trying to pre-rinse the dishes and though I'm sure that helps I still have a problem. Only one load out of maybe seven has come out clean.

Where the h@ll do you find a clear demo door? I would like to have one. Anyone out there have an extra!!! :-)

Rich

Rich I never pre-rinse dishes and I never seem to have that problem. Make sure you try Cascade with Dawn Packs. These dissolve most food particles quite well. I have 140F degree water as well.

The demo door is very rare, I have only ever seen one of them, I found it in an old Frigidaire dealer's basement down in Iowa.

Thanks!!

Alex,

I just made some time to view the video. What a great set-up!! I assume that it's Robert's (Unimatic) DW?

Thanks for directing me!

Robert,

I tried the Cascade w/Dawn pacs and it wasn't as good as the Sun Lite. I will try it again but I just can't seem to get it right :-(

Rich

I saw an ad on TV tonight for Cascade, at the end they mentioned that coming soon was a New Cascade with Bleach. Anyone else know anything about this?

Thanks for the link Greg, I wonder if it will ever be available in powder instead of the packets. I am glad they are putting the bleach back in!!

Hi Rich, hmmmm something doesn't sound right. Is the filter clean? Is your water hot enough? In wonder if the pump pressure is somehow reduced in your machine due to a malfunction of some sort. The spray tube is suppose to rotate at 600rpm, of course the only way to know that is with the clear demo door.
