Hi Liam,

Siemens washers look a bit more smart than Bosch ones, but they are just the same machines (so same built quality) with different "dresses".
Different "dresses" allow different pricing for the same product. B.S.H. marketing office has nice "taylors" who did a great job. Compare these websites :

Ok, Neff and Gaggenau sell only built-in appliances.
So pick up from each of these sites the same products (e.g. four full integrated dishwashers with identical features).
I bet that if Bosch price is X , Siemens price is 5-10 % more, Neff price is 10-15 % more and the Gaggenau price is 15-20 % more.

Whirlpool Europe has even done better.
Compare www.whirlpool.co.uk and www.kitchenaid.co.uk :
they have hidden some whirlpool crap between real KA utensils and mixers.

Spot on about the Siemens machines, technically identical to Bosch and Neff.
The fact is Badging up fools the general public.

Speaking of Siemans

Do their machines put on a very good show? I reflect a lot on this old Zerowatt I have, and it reminds me of a 1/4 scale Wascomat. I would like these new front loaders better IF they had the ability to ramp up to a full spin without spending the next half hour trying to determine whether or not they would balance properly. Not that there's anything wrong with saving water, but I just can't seem to gain much pleasure watching what essentially operates like a dry cleaner, when that pretty candy-apple Epic uses what seems like a teaspoon of water during its rinse. I can't even feel the heat on the front door because of the insulation. If it even heats the water.

I am a hobbyist by nature, and perhaps others here are as well. I fly glow-powered RC planes, some of which are scale and others are designed specifically as RC. For a new machine, I would want something that reflects on my interests. That is, something that I can get the pleasure of watching while it's in action, the way I do my planes when they carve up the sky. But these new gadgets just don't seem to have it for some reason. They would be more like sticking an electric motor on a gas-powered Spitfire and calling it good. It flies, yes. And it's "good for the environment". But it has no drama and very little interaction, except for the time it takes to charge up a LiPo battery which can be about as much fun as watching paint dry. At least, that would seem to be my thoughts on the LG if it were in my collection.

The wind has been literally knocked out of my sails with what these manufacturers now offer.

None the less: I really do understand the importance of a clean household. I am sure these machines are that way by necessity. The average person will put the new LG in a closet, hidden from site like the water heater. And obviously, they'll expect it to be as quiet as a church mouse while doing its job, site unseen. only to be discarded like a used napkin when a repair is no longer feasible. It's sad, but I guess that's what the majority wants.
