Hi guys and gals.

Thought i'd throw this one out to you all for your opinions as i'm undecided. The time has come to pension off my AEG thats about 4 years old and my Hoover Electron 1100 as I need something that can cope with the huge amount of washing that my tribe create with as little time and effort on my part as possible.
I am undecided between the Whirlpool top loader 3RLSQ8033 and the LG 11kg F1443KD.
Opinions please . . .

Try a Speed Queen clone

If you're thinking about a Whirlpool Top Loader you must have a good hot-water supply and decent water pressure - I'm guessing you do, so go for a top-loader and get through 7-8kgs in half an hour or less! Top-loader choices are few and far between here - basically Whirlpool, or a Maytag-Whirlpool, which is the same thing with a stainless steel tub and much higher price tag!

I'd suggest trying a Speed Queen clone, the Huebsch top-loader - unbeatable build, a normal agitator (rather than a Whirlpool augur screw). US posters really rate Speed Queen domestic top-loaders and this is the closest we can get - sold through commercial washer suppliers! Will cost a grand, but I bet it will out last a couple of LGs or Whirlpools - you can also get them reconditioned too, and as they are designed for commercial use, I doubt you'd go wrong.

Here's

Mike, if you read this, do you sell Huebsch?

Here's link to a supplier

More or less true, but unfortunately the spin speed has more influence on the spin results than the width of the drum. That's why small spin dryers had to achieve such a high rpm to get good results.

Here's a G-force calculator. Make sure you fill in the radius in millimeters. Have fun![this post was last edited: 5/1/2010-07:00]

i can't say enough good things about my lg. There are four of us in my house 2 of the team are under 2years old. It holds loads and washes and rinses brilliantly! The genuine fuzzy logic means it adjusts water and time and spins with ease. Plenty of people on here are happy to slate lg. I've owned alot of machines and can hand on heart say it is of one the best i've owned. It's so quiet too! The lg gets my vote. Darren

I'd agree with Darren.

My LG is an older model, approx. 4-5 years old now- no repairs and still going strong and is used daily, did a cottons 60oc today to be honest and still works as good as new and rinses well too!

I'd go for the LG as it's got a big capacity, faster spin speed and becuase i think it will be reliable as i've had good luck with mine and so is Darren happy with his.

Good luck with your new purchase

LG of course!

I know the F1443KD model quite well :)
It has up to 5 different wash actions, depending on the cycle selected (due to the DD motor) and over the great wash peroformance I can say Lg in general has a very good rinse results comparing with other machines of nowadays. The water level is not exagerated but defitively higher than the avarage of rinse level I see around, then the recirculation aids the water to make a better job!

The same line has got the WD model and the STEAM one

I didnt even mention how well the steam aids wash performance! Certainly more than a gimmick! It shifts baby stains with detergent alone without any selection of intensive or longer programmes. I didnt mention this because obviously the 11kg doesnt have steam until the steam model comes out in september! i'd have loved the 11kg with steam but couldnt wait until september!!

As vivalalavatrice said the water level isnt huge its usually up to the rim of the drum and combined with the recirculatory jet and the specially shaped paddles which really shower the clothes it rinses very well. and you can do up to 5rinses!

The 11kg has the cool new tumbles which are distribution tumbles, side to side tumbles, rolling motion. and stepping to loosen the clothes off the sides of the drum at the end of the cycle!!! not to mention they spin in either direction dependant on which balances first!!! which i just find amazing!

LG all the way.

Darren

LG Washer

Hi Darren,

Was in Currys the other evening and was looking at the machine you have got. I am very impressed with the machine, looks good, nice big drum, my god I could go on.

Are you gonna post some more videos of your new machine. It certainly has many features on it.

Regards

Paul

Tumble Dryers

Hi guys.

Thinking of buying a new tumble dryer. Does anyone know which is the best brand to go for.

I don,t want to spend a fortune, and a air vented one would be ok as it would be kept in the garage.

Thanks

Paul

Tumble Dryers

Can't really comment on washers as i know very little about top loaders and LG machines, but for vented dryers i'd come up with a similar do/don't list as per washing machines. So, for new purchases:

Avoid:
*Hotpoint/Indesit (belt & drum allignment problems)

*Hoover/Candy (premature scraping noises & drum paddles breaking)

*Beko (unlike their washers, dryers don't seem so special - problems particularly with tangling off loads & uneven drying).

Not bad:
*Bosch (expensive Logixx & Exxcel may be fine, but some of the cheaper ones seem to have electronic failures quite early on).

*AEG (not that bad, but no better than cheaper Zanussi ones).

*Whirlpool (no major problems, but heater element failure seems to occur quite widely).

Worth Considering:
*White Knight (cheap, based on an older simple design).

*Zanussi (not what they were, but no obvious major flaws).

*Miele (decent, but too expensive for a dryer, and probably out of budget).

That's how i see the current dryer market. However, you could consider a few year old example. If i was going down the used route i'd probably follow a similar list to above. The exception being Hotpoint, which seemed to make very decent dryers up to around the late 90s/early 00's. You'd know that anyway!

Liam.

Tumble Dryers

Hi Liam,

Thanks for message.

I have looked at the White Knight dryer and they seem to be ok. They are much cheaper to buy than many dryers. Did like the LG dryer, but quite expensive.

Cheers

Tumble Dryers

Me again.

My parents have all Miele appliances, and have never broken down. My parents washer is about 10 years old now, and still going strong. My Mum is always washing and they go on and on and on.

Gonna wait for the sales, or a sale, and choose a machine that does not cost to much.

hi paul! Thanks for your comments! I'm ridiculously happy with my lg! It washes and rinses supurb! I love how clever the fuzzy logic is adjusting the spin profiles for out of balance loads. I also love the weight recognition. Thats my current game. Make it register 9kg. The most i've managed is 7kg! I love it and definately would buy another in future! Darren

I have an Indesit IS60V tumble dryer, its about 2 and a half years old and its fantastic. Think its the 2nd best tumble dryer i've ever owned. It dries very evenly, very quickly and gently.

White knight dryers, we used to have one at work and it was awful, it took forever to dry, dried very unevenly (poor reverse action) and got very hot.

The best tumble dryer I have owned though has to be the Whirlpool Solutions dryer AWZ121. Got it second had off ebay, so quiet, so gentle and extremely quick! Often taking only 45 mins to dry towels from my old 1100rpm Hoover washer!

Just my two cents!

Hi.

Thanks for all the replies on this. I have, however, done a bit of a silly thing. Had a late night ebay moment after a few tizers and bought a Primus R7 machine. Ooops, really think computers should have a breathalizer onthem to stop drunken bidding lol!
