Noisy machine
By Lucy, Butte, MT
I just used this washer for the first time tonight... I got brand new washer and dryer set, Maytag, for the first time in my life. We used the dryer the night we brought it home and it makes a ticking sound, like a clock ticking away while it dries. I called the service people and they said this is normal? So tonight we used the washing machine and it is the noisiest machine ever, so bad I actually filmed it to prove how bad the noise is. I am disappointed and afraid to call and be told "it's normal" again. I thought or assumed Maytag would make a quality product. My mom has had the same set for decades and no noise, no problems. I really wish someone would tell me they are brand new machines and they are supposed to be quiet! I really just want to return them. I think I got lemons.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Merchant response:
Dear Lucy: Thank you for contacting Maytag regarding your washer concern. We have sent an email to you and we ask that you respond so we can discuss your appliance concerns shortly. Regards, Melanie, Maytag Review Team

I really like those actually. Last time I looked for them, couldn't find them on Home Depot, Lowe's, Best Buy, or Sears...maybe they are still kinda new? Price point is similar to Speed Queen. I would feel pretty confident buying one honestly.

I would be a lot more impressed if they had more than a one year warranty on anything that is likely to actually break and be expensive to fix.

MT Warranty on water pump 1 year

Transmission and main bearings 1 year

Inlet valve 1 yaer

Electronic controls and water level sensing system 1 year

Complicated lid lock system 1 year

Plastic outer tub 1 year

Speed Queens warranty on all these items 5 YEARS PARTS AND LABOR

And in addition SQ covers the transmission for 15 years and the outer tub for ever [ parts only after 5 years ]

I agree Ralph I don't think SQ has much to worry about.

The MT dryer warranty has the same major problems, it does not cover any parts of the heating systems on either gas or electric models and leaves out the VERY EXPENSIVE electronic control systems after just one year.

If MT WP wants to get serious they need at least a 5 year warranty, and I assure you that they will not do it on any laundry pair that does not cost over $2000.

This set has a 3 year regular warranty and 10 year for the drum and drive motor. Not 5 years like SQ, but not shabby! As I recall, when I was looking at SQ sets last year, they only had a 2 year warranty. Is the 5 year something new?

Hi Joe, is the 3 year warranty parts and labor ?, the ten year drum warranty in the washer and dryer is about useless, care to guess how many dryer drums I have replaces in WP built dryers in the last 40 years ?, probably about 3 and they were for cosmetic reasons which I am sure the 10 year MT warranty excludes, LOL.

SQ now has a 5 year P&L warranty on all washers and dryers with electronic controls used for normal home use, since these new MTs have electronic controls I used the SQ electronic models in my comparison.

Hahaha, yes true. They don't tend to go bad but i guess they see it as a selling point. ;-)

Yes it's parts and labor for 3 years.

tangent....warranties

Haha, little off topic but...yeah, in my washer/dryer shopping I've been ignoring warranties. They're all basically a paltry 1 year.
There's this trend where mfrs are covering certain parts for 10 years, and they put a big fancy plaque on the machine for it.
But I had a conversation with the Home Depot guy about this, and we both came to the agreement that the parts covered under these flashy warranties are the parts that NEVER break to begin with.
Motors, and drums.
Those never break! So WP, LG, Samsung are off the hook.
GE now "looks" uncompetitive with their stingy 1yr warranty. But....it's essentially what the others have too.
Seriously, who's stainless steel wash basket "breaks."
It's always the controllers, bearings and pumps. The stuff they won't cover.

Begruggingly, it's to the point where Home Depot's $99 3 year protection plans are awesome deals.

(jumps down from soap box)

Haven't RPS sensors been kind of a problematic thing for a time with the LG DDs? They are 10-year covered by now. At least, parts wise.
And here in the EU, LG extended its DD warranty with the new Titan(?) line to 20 years.

Anyway, I noticed the bleach dispenser looks green. Is that just a gimmick or did they actually change something about that?
Because otherwise, it seems like the just jammed a new facia on the exact same workings.

We looked at the parts list and find no heater at all.

These MTs do have a 3 year P&L warranty, YAY a step in the right direction.

Extended warranties are still a terrible deal, consumers generally only get back about 20-30% of what they spend on them so if you buy that 3 year [ really only 2 years as you get the first year from the manufacturer ] home depot $99 warranty is really only worth $20-30.

None of us are that despite that you should ever take a bad gamble like this, IF YOU CAN"T AFFORD TO FIX AN APPLIANCE YOU SHOULD NOT BE BUYING THAT APPLIANCE.

Fix the old one buy a used one, or do without, buying service contracts just keeps the middle class poor. You actually have a better chance playing the state lottery, LOL.

the only fortunate part of an extended warranty from Lowes or HomeDepot is they do start after the original manufacturers warranty stops.....

most are a 2 or 4 year warranty.....increasing your coverage for about 5 years.....BUT read that fine print, cosmetic and adjustments are not covered....as well as parts that fall off, or break off, like a knob!

and as far as the ones I purchased, IF you don't use that warranty, meaning you never had a service call, you will get that money refunded at the end of the term......

the extended will cover for a complete replacement if 3 service calls are needed......again, read.....some just replace only if its the same repair 3 times, others are if you have any service call adding up to 3.....

I have had the GE warranty from Lowes.......as for the Calypso, they refunded full purchase price rather than fix the machine, not the sale price I paid......

for the window A/C, they offered to bring out a new one, or refund the money again, I took the money, again, I bought it at the end of season clearance....they refunded full retail price......

there are ups and downs to everything......just proceed with caution....

10 year basket warranty...

is only on the sidewalls. The plastic bottom is not covered outside of the 3 years.

Speed Queen has nothing to fear from this machine, agi-pellar and all.
