New Maytag competition aimed at Speed Queen

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I believe I've expressed myself about these machines in the last thread about them: Trash trash trash! Plus I think they're hideously ugly. The marketing for these is the most disappointing part to me, meant to be so misleading! Same old belt drive design under the hood as any of the other Whirlpools. I saw one in person a month ago and my opinion of them only got worse. It's just meant to look "tough".
I'm sure some will disagree with my strong feelings towards them, but that's the beauty of opinion, it's not meant to be agreed with by all.

Speed Queen has nothing to worry about.

I'm not at all impressed with either the MT or SQ over rated, underscored, fabric tearing rust buckets. After ruining their reputation by selling out their heritage and historical reputation of quality, performance and dependability, Whirlpool is,yet again, doing the exact same thing to Maytag as WCI/ELECTROLUX has done and is still doing to FRIGIDAIRE.

I wonder why they are not using the agipeller from the Whirlpools. They look much better than the standard impeller with a post attached on top, as well as seeming more effective. The "vanes" are more rounded and a little more blunt, so I would think it would be gentler on fabrics.

I also wonder why they think anyone would want a laundry set that looks like it came from a 90's laundromat. I wasn't the biggest fan of the Centennial style, but I like it better than this.

I ALSO wonder why if they can put a longer warranty on the Maytags, why can't they do they same for their parent WP machines? They're identical on the inside.

SO MANY QUESTIONS.

I sense consensus on this Maytag vs the SQ.

But lets make it more interesting shall we?
What manufacturer could give SQ a go on their TL machine using
an existing design, not necessily currently marketed, but with judicious modifications to better meet the challenge?
Of course this will probably again invole some Whirlpool product, being they pooled up so many firms under their belt.

Don't get too carried away, remember it's got to turn some kind of profit.
What platform with what key design elements would win you over?

I'm gonna through one out, color! I don't care what machine you all come up with i vote for some cool color splashed on them panels.

I don't think Speed Queen is worried either, considering the majority of their business goes to commercial customers anyway. What's sad is WP (or GE for that matter), could totally blow them out of the water with a modern rendition of an older design. They both have some pretty deep pockets!

What this "new" Maytag tells me is that WP has indeed noticed that SQ has a good old reliable product and they have probably lost just enough customers that they are tying to promote their own "old reliable" machine. Based on the reviews I read about it, most people seem to be very happy with it so far. The longer warranty is def a good selling point.
