Now I wonder if this is similar to the old Waste King/Thermador "Steam Machine" dishwashers. What's old is new again?

Yeah, and there's no other information on it that I can find. Thought it was in interesting "concept"! And the price isn't too bad, either.

Maytag should come out wth a dishwasher where you put glasses and cups in the bottom rack, and dinner plates and silverware in the top rack. S/S tub. That would be innovative! Just a wish.
( I miss my old Maytag dishwasher)

I just came up with an idea...

You know those steamers, found in department stores, that has a unit on the floor, there is a hose with a "nozzle" that you hold and you steam the clothes to get the wrinkles out? Why not have this attachment for this dishwasher so that as the dishes are drying, you can steam wrinkles out of your clothes. Just like the norge dryer that had a hair dryer attachement.

1/3 hp motor ??? are they going "back" to stronger motors ? its been a few years since I have seen that strong a motor in a DW, years ago, I thought they all had at least that and the old "hobart" made KA's had a 1/2hp motor.

I think Maytag's have always been 1/3HP...as far as I can recall.

Basically, it's a short-fill with the heating element energized for creating steam. Kenmore will offer one as well but I think it will only use steam with the Sanitary option in the final rinse.

The Whirlpool Duet Steam Dryer was your brain-child, Bob? Good thinking! ;-) Duet now offers a Steam Washer as well. I wonder if you put some benches in the laundry room and a stack of towels...oh, never mind.

Well the Maytag could also be a good humidifier in the winter and also a way to clear your sinuses when you have a cold. Be sure to bring a rack of clothes into the kitchen when you unload the dishes, it will get all the wrinkles out.

Hmm, the new 9600 washer has a deep clean with steam option that's like stain treat (but also includes steam) on the Kenmore equivalent (Stain Treat button being only on Kenmo version of WP front loaders. Hmm, wonder what sears will offer as the "added" feature now when their version comes out.

Why not a stainless colander insert for the top rack? You put in your chopped veggies and in 15 minutes you have enough to serve up a banquet!

(Just make sure you don't add any detergent or rinse aid!)

Well while we're at it, why not just add a fish cycle, for those that simply must cook their fish inside the dishwasher!

A flipping panel like the Wolf wall-ovens - one side of the panel is a dishwasher, the other a steam oven. There would have to be a warning message on the panel of each to instruct the user to be sure to use the correct cycle and not combine the two functions.

Maybe then we'd get a dishwasher with stainless steel racks!

All Maytag tall tub wash motors are 1/4 hsp 2.5 amps. 3350 rpm's. The only thing I like about them is the stronger wash motor...everything else is so flimsy..plastic bottom wash arm..ugghhh. I do still like the standard tub dishwasher even though it has a plastic bottom wash arm, but seems sturdier all around.

Maytag tall tubs are all 1/3 hp pancake syyle motors, according to their dishwasher specs....pretty decent for a modern machine.

Anyone know what the rating on the GE tall tub dishwashers is? I have to say, when I open the GE while it's washing, there is a lot of action inside...and it usually winds up splattered all over the side of the refrigerator because you can't open that door slowly...it seals too well.

John---I groaned when I noticed that my Maytag's gleaming stainless steel tall-tub would have a plastic lower wash arm, but it cleans like the dickens, so I guess that's what counts. Haven't had any complaints about my tall-tub.

I think the door is sturdier than a lot of other models I've seen. It sounds as solid as a Lexus when you close it. I also like that the door will stay open at almost any angle. I like to leave mine open a few inches all the time, to keep it fresh inside.

I should have said "All Maytag plastic tub d/w's...I didn't mean the ss interiors, which I do prefer..... The tech sheet I have says the motor is a 1/4 hsp etc. Maybe that's in the low end model, which this is. Higher end models must have a stronger motor?? Sorry for the misinformation!

GE

GE is a little interesting.
They don't have HP ratings for their motors.
Just an amp rating...and on the sticker, it says the motors draw less than 2.0 amps.
They have large capacitors attached to them too.

Whatever their "HP" rating is, it must be a little on the high side, because yes, GE dishwashers are quite strong, and are one of the few machines that still has the power to flip stuff around in the upper racks.

That's a good point John....the GE TT machines do flip things around a bit of they're not secured. I've had more than a few tupperware containers wind up on their side on the top rack.
