New Maytag Neptunes

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I like that set, Mike, it looks great. The old Maytag dryers with the moisture monitor had two lights. The top light would glow red as the wet clothes touched the sensor in the drum and the bottom light would stay on until the cool down. The top light was almost constant at the beginning of the cycle when the clothes were wet, and would just blink on slightly when the clothes were almost dry. How does your dryer’s control panel change throughout the cycle as the clothes begin to dry?

New Maytag Neptunes

Mike Real nice set. Best of Luck. I like these big monster washers. I have the LG 3677 combo. Also a great machine. Keep us posted about your sucess. Does a cycle take a long time to run? The LG takes a long time to balance the load before the spin process. Does the maytag do a lot of pulse spinning?

how do they perform ?

hi and congrads on a beautiful set ......... I am anxious to see how they perform and how much water they take in .....thanks

Performance

These 2 are quite interesting starting with the washer. Each cycle has its own times. SuperWash is the longest at 1 hour and 40 mins. Add a prewash and you put on another 25 mins...extend the spin and its another 15 mins...egads!!I used the whites cycle which set the controls to a hot wash and MaxExtract and 54 mins. This washer is very quiet and it does maintain the water temp with a heater. Between the wash cycle and rinses are fast long spins ..not like my Frigidaire where they are short spins between rinses.
The dryer is very interesting since it will estimate how long the machine will run. The progress lights for drying and cool down first start off with 2 bars in the drying and as the load dries all the bars will light and then with the cooldown the first 2 bars will light then all...its like a progression of the cycle that gives you an idea how long it will run for. If the dryer finds something that isnt quite dry it will add more time to the cycle. If you try to run it without clothes then the dryer will shut down in 2 mins. It is also a gas dryer and it is FAST. with a 7.3 cu ft drum and having 200 cfms running thru it...this dryer cruises. what I do love about the window is that now I can watch the clothes billow in the airflow.
This set by the way is in Massachusetts where I have been living with my partner in Lynn.

consumption

The washer uses about 18 gallons for a Normal cycle. The drum is huge at 3.81 cu ft and it does hold a king size comforter...that was the first load I did ..the comforter needed a bath badly. The washer doesnt spin the load at the beginning like my sister's LG washer to get an idea of how big the load is. Attached to the back of the washer and dryer are the spec books and troubleshooting guides which I glanced thru...this washer is beltdriven ...not direct drive like the 9700. The other thing is that this washer has 2 vents in the back of the washer and you can hear the water sloshing around.
The reason we bought these was well one there was a 3 year supply of Tide HE to entice us but it was also the capacity and water and energy savings. After getting the power bill and gas bill we decided it was time. Not only that the water bill is killing us as well. We went to Salem and checked out Tri City Sales and almost bought an Bosch set that was on clearance ...the dryer was going for $599 for the Nexxt Premium and the washer was selling for 899. I had my heart set on them and I figured that I didnt want to have anything to do with the Neptunes since the lawsuits and all. So we went to Lowes and HomoDepot and they were the same price for the Neptunes and as I looked at them the more I liked them. I dunno what Consumer Reports will say but I took a chance and said hell why not. We ended up buying them at a Maytag appliance store here in Lynn knowing that they have the reputation of fixing them and fixing them right gawd forbid it should die a premature death.

detergents

I dunno if anyone noticed the Canadian Tide in the cabinet. I have been using a 1/3 of a scoop since its not an Ultra detergent and mixing it with Tide HE...using less than a 1/4 scoop...this way the Tide will last me forever...or until I go back to National Wholesale Liquidators in Revere for more...that place is detergent heaven..they even have Calgonite for the dishwasher which I have been using in the Dishdrawers.
On another note I had a heart attack back in October and a couple we know gave me a gift basket filled with Restoration Hardware dryer sheets...at 15 bucks a pop I couldnt believe they got every scent under the sun that they had. Plus they also bought 4 boxes of Tide with Febreeze. The thought was nice but the Tide stinks to the high heavens I think.I like the Meadows and rain scent not the spring awakening...but I didnt say anything the thought was nice .
I am going to use Persil and British Ariel in this machine when the Tide is gone that I have now. Scott usually buys me 2 boxes of Persil for Xmas...the first time I got them from him I cried...I am not right!!

Mikey, will be anxious to hear further reports about these machines. Sad to heaer about your heart attack. I hope thigs will progress well with your recovery. I have wondered about you for the last several months, hadn't seen a peep out of ya. And what a husbear, Persil for Christmas!! Bob
