New Member! Own Miele but interested in Vintage.

Hi. I’m Mark, 38, originally from Liverpool, UK. I’m interested in vintage washers and dryers. In particular, British Hotpoint vintage machines both TL and FL. I hope one day I will have the facility to own at least one!

I’ve been happy with my Miele washer (W5780) and vented dryer (T8722) at my flat in Brighton. I did consider a cheap British-made gas dryer from White Knight but decided to go with Miele (who don’t do gas). That apartment is now rented out with those machines still there.

I am now living in a rented apartment (no washer or dryer included) near Barcelona, Spain. There is no dryer vent in my laundry room and I didn’t want to hang a vent hose out of the window long-term. I did look into having one installed but as my Spanish is still terrible, and as I’m renting, I decided to go with a heat pump condenser.

I was VERY reluctant to buy a non-vented dryer. I went to the Miele Experience Centre in England to try out the new W1 / T1 range and they seemed pretty good. I bought the washer WKH120 WPS and heat pump condenser dryer TKG440 WP. They both work very well but I still long for vintage machines and would love to use vintage as daily drivers if I could.

I did live in Arizona for a year in 3 different houses and experienced 3 different types of machines:
(1) traditional TL and thermostatic electric dryer,
(2) HE TL with moisture-sensing electric dryer,
(3) FL with gas moisture-sensing dryer.

I enjoy reading the posts on this forum with photos and videos of vintage machines. Hopefully one day I can join the club!

Here is my current set. As I bought them in Spain, the writing on the fascia is in Spanish – I guess this helps me learn more Spanish!

I´ll be in Sitges again in November for a week,always visiting the 2 laundromats in town with the Girbau washers!!

I must say I haven't been into any laundromats here in Sitges. Perhaps I should have thought of that instead of being in a hurry to arrange delivery of my machines!

It's many years since I've been into a laundrette in the UK. I remember the FL machines used to do prewash, main wash and THREE rinses. All 5 fills were at a high water level. Doubt they do that anymore. Used to race through the cycle using tonnes of water! However I remember washing a very dirty load of whites on HOT at the laundrette -- results nowhere near as good as at home in a standard cheap British Hotpoint washing at 90 degrees with far less water (although longer cycle time).

I guess November should be an awesome time of year to be visiting here -- cooler and less tourists!

Less Tourists are the main reason for going to Sitges in Nov.I use to get there every May and for New Years Eve,too,when its busy!Have some friends there and they have more time to be around out of season!
There is one Launderette right on the way to San Sebastian beach with old Girbau machines and one on Pg.de Vilanova very close to Sitges centre with the new Girbau machines and a cute little 6 kg.dryer!!
