Hi,
My name is Louis and i have been obsessed with washing machines from before i could even talk! i am South African and have owned almost every type of washer that has ever been on our market!

I am so excited to have membership to aw.org its an honor!!!
i hope you enjoy looking at my photos of all the washing machines here in S.A.

I repair my own machines, but i must admit that i use any shortcut that will more than likely work (for me).
Here is one of them so please let me know if it is going to work:

I bought my 11th aeg 64 sl here we call them aeg little miracle.
on the right side of the drum is the spider and looking from inside the drum you see hairline cracks all around there. (where the spider is joined) i hope this is making sense as i am not good at explaing these things. anyway i have bought pratley steel (www.pratleysteel.com) and smeared it all around that area on both sides of the drum. i hope it will stop any further damage. the machine spins like a dream and bearing seem fine it must just be wear and tear as this particular model is at least 30 years old.

these were pretty popular here, I know the 64SL. But I have no experiences with this glue stuff you bought :-(
You can still find these machines on the junkyards here and there. Tell me if I should go and get an old drum for you.

Pratley steel is used in place of welding and really sets like steel! i have checked the drum and it has bonded so well that it is now part of the drum. i also tested it by using two old (heavy) steel pots and smearing it on the base of the one and placing the other pot on top (two bases together) well i tell you they will not break apart!!! i really did try pulling the pots apart my last attempt was to use forcefully throwing them to the ground but they are stuck. it looks like it will work after all.

Joe, what type of washes do you like? i would like to post some photos for you to look at.

That's a coincidence! My name is Louis too and I have a small AEG toploader too. Mine is a newer one, a Lavamat 220. I love the way these machines make a little dance when they spin. I have only one picture of it in my Webshots album.

There are quite a few videos on Youtube of this machines, especially of the Hajdu variant. That's the model that was built in Hungary for the East European market.

Louis, let me tell you a practical joke I played on my Brother with his washing machine using that weld stuff you speak of. I buy what they call JB WELD here or Haliweld from Halliburton INC. which is the same as JB WELD. But anyways I worked on his dryer once and told him he could come by and pick it up anytime he wanted. I placed an old wore out Dolley (handtruck) under it for him to push it to his truck. But I JB WELDED the dolley to the back of his dryer. It was hilarious to say the least but it took a chisel to seperate the dryer from the dolley.
