I recently remodeled my apartment with a new kitchen, new bath and a updated laundry area. Instead of getting another combo witch all seem to have problems from what I have been reading, I decided to go with the Miele stacked washer and dryer. The washer is the same size as the LG combo I had 24". It does take a decent size load but is not gigantic like a lot of various washers out there! The washer is wxi860wcs which has tons of cycles and auto dos detergent dispenser. The dryer is txi680wp with steam option and is a heat pump that runs off 120 volt. It does pretty good for a 120 volt dryer. I have done a full load of bath towels in 90 minutes or less. Their is so much to learn - I went to Miele headquarters in Prinstin NJ and got educated. They admitted the machine isn't easy to learn.
Their is so many options within settings. I programed the rinse water level to be higher which really gets the clothes cleaner and rinsed better. I bought 2 more cartridges of detergent while I was at Miele. I programed the washer to use the least amount of detergent which seems to be enough. My clothes aren't that dirty and I have soft water here in NY! I have used the normal cycle a number of times. It works very well. I tried bright whites cycle twice, it boosts the water temp to extra hot (great for towels). The washer will add a additional rinse if it senses to much suds. That did happen once. I have used the quick intensive cycle a few times for a set of queen sheets. It is a 49 minute cycle but doesn't spin very long. It will also try to spin while its trying to wash to quicken up the process of sauntering the laundry. One thing I dont like is the washer will shake when it tries to spin at times. But once it picks up speed it spins smoothly! I tried the delicate and dress shirts cycles. They work well also.
I was wondering if anyone else has experience with Miele and can add some tips.
Thanks Peter

I have the WWH860 washer, a model released before yours but I think the cycles are the same. There might be differences between them but here is how I use mine. I have the washer plugged into a Kill-O-Watt meter which measures the electricity being consumed by the washer. The meter is set to show amps so I can know when the heater is on.

In the settings there is a section named units where you can tell the washer to display words, or numbers in C or F. I have mine set to numbers in F so that when selecting a wash temperature the display shows 85, 105,120,140 etc instead of warm or warm plus or hot. I also get spin speeds such as 600, 1200, 1600 instead of words describing the speed. My previous Miele washer used numbers so I prefer these to words.

I rarely use the Normal cycle. Normal is the energy saving cycle and even though it might clean, I like other cycles that will use a bit more water, take slightly more time and use the internal heater more. My machine is in an unheated space so keeping the water warm throughout the wash is important. In place of Normal I will use the Baby Clothes cycle. This is intended for cotton clothes, bibs, blankets, diapers etc, but it does a better than excellent job on regular cotton items. The wash lasts a bit longer than the normal cycle and the heater will cycle on and off until the last 8 or 9 minutes of the wash. I use 3 rinses on this cycle. The estimated time for all of the cycles will be adjusted based on your load size so the starting estimate is rarely going to be the actual time a cycle takes.

Another cycle that is unexpectedly good for most items is Wrinkle Free. This uses a bit more water in the wash and rinses and tumbles the clothes fairly aggressively. You can select “gentle” in the wash options if you want less tumbling action. I use this for a lot of items like t shirts, crew shirts, shorts, etc. If you use a temperature of 120F or above you will get a cool down where a slight amount of cold water might be added at the end of the wash but I think this depends on the actual water temperature because sometimes you don’t get additional cold water.

Twin Dos. I use this but I also deselect it and will use other detergents, either Persil Advanced, German Persil powder, Tide powder, Tide Free and Gentle, sports detergents, and detergents for darks. Phase 1 cartridge is detergent with 7 enzymes, Phase 2 cartridge is hydrogen peroxide bleach, surfactants, and optical brightener. I don’t use the factory setting for dosing, I use much less, but I try to keep the same ratio between the two. Phase 2 dose is set at 75% of phase 1. The machine does the mixing of them anyway when dispensing this is why you can select whites or colors. Colors use less of phase 2.

Darks Cycle: I use this for my better dark clothing and jeans. The spin after the wash is very short so this cycle defaults to 3 rinses. No dosing of phase 2 is done so there will be no bleach or optical brightener dispensed in this cycle.

Table Linens, curtains - this cycle is good for sheets too.
Sportswear - I use this for my gym clothes and use a sport wash for detergent.

Single Wash: This option can be selected for all of the washing cycles. It is for smaller loads and decreases the cycle time and water consumption. I use this to wash 3 or 4 shirts or loads under 2 pounds. It will follow the wash pattern of the cycle you select.

Softsteam: I sometimes use this along with Single Wash. This is a 30 minute process that tumbles items in steam to help relax wrinkles. Good for cotton or linen shirts/pants that wrinkle.

Towels: I don’t use this cycle. The wash is fine but the spins are too short for my liking. Maybe this cycle has been improved on your machine.

Separate Rinse: I get two rinses on this cycle with the water for the last rinse taken in through the fabric softener dispenser.

While the cycle names on mine appear to be the same as yours the programming might differ on yours since you have the current model.

Congratulations on the new machines!

I'm curious about the water heating on Mieles that run on 120v; how long does it take them to do the heating? And what's the highest temperature they can achieve? Can they do "boil" washes?
