Now Lowe's offers the Dacor line of appliances. While they are pricey, their dishwashers outwash the Bosch, Miele, Thermador, and most of the other top of the lines. They are built like tanks and don't have the pump and electrical problems of the Bosch machines. They are also quieter than any of the machines listed, even the less expensive models. Several customers have bought them ($1,200 - $1,700) and love them! So far no repairs. Anyone one here have one?

I have the Dacor Duel Fuel Convection Stove, and the matching Micro/Convection Hood.....

the stove was 4000.00....constantly replacing boards about every 3 years, at 500.00 for parts and installation......broiler has gone out again, oven soon to follow.....igniters either don't spark unless you file them, or they click constantly...the lite bulbs for the oven are 25.00 a piece, not including installation....
although I love the griddle/grill for its size....

the micro was 800.00...whole unit replaced twice...exhaust fan always runs on high...

RUN AND STAY THE HECK AWAY!!!!

for the money, would rather have a WOLF or VIKING

Asko

My dealer says the 48 rated Asko is quieter than the 38 Bosch.

DB ratings are all relative.

No, DB-ratings are normed (At least over heer). And a 38db Bosch is no way louder than ANY 48db rated dishwasher.
The feeling oft DBS is relative. Palace a 50db rated DW in our kitchen and I'll freak out because it is that loud. Give somebody who had a 50db DW for years our 45db one or even a 38db one and he won't recognize it running.

Dacor Appliances

As an appliance repair man I totally agree with Martins experiences, I would not touch ANY Dacor appliance with a ten foot stick, LOL.

For very high end stoves I would get Kitchenaid, GE Monogram or Wolf.

For Built-in refrigerators I would get Kitchenaid or Sub-Zero.

For best DWs I would get Kitchenaid or maybe some GE DWs.

I would stay away from Viking appliances in general, their gas ranges are junk as are their built-in refrigerators.

In theory the db measurement should be performed to some form of standard giving a truly quantifiable apples to apples comparison.

But the rub is that the human ear perceives sound differently. The subjective possibility that a louder measured product seems quieter then a measured quieter one exists. If the quiet machine sounds more grating or irritating it makes sense. Remember that the comment the dealer made was subjective.

Unfortunately without trying multiple machines at home yourself its hard to truly know.

How long ago did Dacor discontinue the 30" dishwasher? I always thought those were really cool.

dB

My brother and sister in law have a Bosh/Siemens dishwasher with a 42dB rating. You have to stand in front of it to hear it and even then it's difficult. I cannot imagine any 48dB rated dishwasher being more silent than that.

BTW, there is a standard for measuring sound levels in dB(A) re 1 pW for dishwashers overhere in Europe. It's part of the energy label.

I'll choose Veganism for 100

No, or few cooked foods eliminates the need for a stove (and cost).
It's better for your health eating whole foods instead of those that have had the vitamins cooked out of them.

The only stove like appliance in my kitchen cost $12.99 new.

With fewer cooking utensils with cooked on gunk, and mixing bowls, and dirtied this and that...
there are fewer dishes altogether so clean up is much easier and doesn't require a dishwasher. And dishes always get clean when hand washed.

We have a set of Dacor stainless cookware. It is amongst our favorite. Even though it is not teflon or anything coated food doesn't seem to stick to it. We bought the entire set on Ebay for $149.00, but at places like Somona & Williams I have seen the same set for $650.00+.
