Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I’ve never had suds issues with ours, maybe you have really soft water or a water softener? That’ll certainly cause you to need to cut down on detergent dosage by a good amount. Premature wear hasn’t been an issue and I was worried it would be coming from a front loader, but it’s been almost 4 years and I’m washing many of the same things.

As for the softener dispenser, you can take that off and get down to the center of the agitator, just need a long scrub brush or something to reach in there. I ended up just getting a blank cap for mine cuz we don’t use softener very often and careless people just ended up getting powdered detergent/borax in there and I’d end up having to clean it out often.

Ironically it’s still on the better end for spinning water out of clothes for an old school top loader. Some vintage machines had a very high spin speed but most were around 600 RPM, compared to SQ’s 710.

The water levels are weird, idk why they couldn’t just do a proper medium setting, probably cuz they just simply removed the “medium” selection from the 8 series that was in the 9 series and just decided to call the “large” option “medium” in the 8 series, so it’s really “large” and not medium. I try to do full loads most of the time anyway.

Honestly sounds like you’d be better off with a front loader of some sort.

talk about your drain pipe arrangement

I lived in a place that also had a washer that liked to 'puke' suds up. It was odd because it only did it in the winter time. Turns out the vent stack was plugged from frost, There was air back flowing and this air was pushing suds up out the 'pipe' the washer gooseneck was hung.
Are you septic tank or city sewer? Older septic systems weren't the best vented and every gallon of water displaces 1 gallon of air. this air needs to go 'somewhere'..
Another thought on the general plumbing; how far is the actual trap on this drain from the washing machine gooseneck? I've seen some pretty 'creative' designs out 'here'.. some barely defy gravity.. some would suck a bowling ball up.
Do you ever see suds burping up in any of your toilets, bath, shower, sinks when the washer drains?

Drain pipe arrangement

So I have city water, it’s not soft and no softener. Had a CABRIO AGI and a GE HYDROWAVE prior to this machine. Never had suds. Never needed fabric softener to cut the suds. No suds or burping from any toilets, sinks etc.

When I remove the softener dispenser there is a thin plastic stick about 6” that is inside the agitator. When you say you use a scrub brush do you just scrub gently around that stick?

Cabrio and Hydrowave both use an electric pump, idle when not in use.....

Speed Queen has a pump mounted to the motor, in constant motion whenever the motor is running....which at times can stir up suds...

I just know my local codes for a drain pipe.....there must be a vertical minimum elevation of 18" above the trap for proper drainage...

for your setup, not exactly anything wrong if your hose is tightly sealed into the pipe, and a backflow preventer is in place, you already have the airgap before the 'T'...

that little stick down inside the agitator can be snapped out of there if you have to...in fact I drilled a hole down the center so water would flush through during agitation...a barrel style brush works for cleaning the inside if needed....

you might have better luck with softeners if you take your bottle and pre-mix 50/50 with water....diluted and ready to add to the dispenser, I never have a residue issue anymore.....plus you stretched your dollar value in usage

softeners today are concentrated and thick, which easily slime up and clog most dispensers....

Suds Backing Out Stand-Pipes With SQ TL Washers

We have had at least 20+ complaints of this out of the nearly 1000 of these washers we sold and installed, the fast spin speed and motor operated pump whips up a lot of foam.

It also has something to do with the houses drain system as the great majority of installations do not have this issue.

I would suggest sealing the drain hose into your drain pipe, this will stop any dripping etc.

pilling is more of a fabric construction issue, enhanced by machines with an agitator....

possible chances of reduction, if possible, turn items inside out, dont overload, gentler speed agitation, if more detergent contact time is needed for heavily soiled clothing, add a soak, or pause the machine manually....
