Some folks on YouTube were requesting some new videos, so I made one by washing area rugs. I thought folks on here might enjoy them too. The Queen got off balanced in the final spin (one rug is 3x heavier than the other) - was cool to see it correct itself and the machine not budge. I have a "jeans" load coming soon as well.

I hope you enjoy!

Great video, Dan, thanks for taking the time to post it. I'm glad there's a manufacturer still making a washer with a traditional agitation stroke plus a spin-drain. Looks like a high quality machine, that's for sure!

Speed Queen Clean!

Nice work.  Amazingly, she even achieved full speed spin despite being unbalanced.

great machines

The Speed Queen top loader is a great machine. I bought one in November to replace a 1997 Maytag Dependable Care (the last of the good ones, and that was marginal) and a 1987 Maytag. Since, throught the kindness of several of us, I have discovered how to easily bypass the lid switch I have spent many hours (go figure) watching the loads. The spin is unbelievable at 710 rpms. While ramping up to top speed, the sound brings back memories of my mom's 1954 Unimatic that she used until 1968. Not quite the same sound, but the closest I have heard. Now, when I get brave enough to pull it out and adjust the water level, I will be in washer paradise, or at least as close as anyone's gonna get with a new top loader. My only real complaint is the restriction on hot water flow...it comes in at tank temp, but is very slow to fill on hot, and the warm setting might as well be all cold. That may change when the underground water lines warm this spring and summer. Here in the northern most part of the south the water flowing 5 miles from the water plant gets warm enough to use only cold.

Hot water

You could always reverse the hot and cold water supply.  Switch the hoses then open the machine and switch the wires from the solenoids.  That would restrict the cold water and allow hot to flow freely.  Should make the warm water warmer.

speed queen top loader.

I bought one last month to replace the horriable Samsung. I love it just ordered a SQ dryer going to get a front load washer next.

unbalanced new Speed Queen washer

I thought it was going to bang against the sides, or shut itself off-I need to know what a brand new Speed Queen top-load washer will do when it gets severely off-balance-my AWN412 almost got off-balance on a load of jeans once, is there an off-balance switch? Will the lid switch get broken from the paper bypass I put in it?

Stop obsessing.............................

Did you take your Paxil today Tbolt? (LOL) SQ t/l DO NOT go out of balance. I have had my machine for two years , and have NOT ONCE had it go out of balance, and no, it is not gonna affect the lid switch. The switch is no where near the wash tub. You bought a washing machine.....not a Lexus, there are gonna be pings, and bangs, and all sorts of noises, but this washer is built like a tank, and built the same as their laundromat top loaders, so stop worrying and obsessing.

I'm impressed with this Speed Queen! I like the classic design, and like the wobbly tub during spin, like the old GE's used to do.

I've got about a half notion to get rid of my 2008 GE washer/dryer set for a set of Speed Queens like this one.

@andy

GO-FOR-IT Andy and keep the other pair as a classic collection.
If I want Speed Queen I have to buy Huebsch brand, a division of SQ, I think, here in Canada, but it's not available in every province. We grew up with Speed Queen in the family when everyone around us were buying Kenmore which at the time was Inglis. These days Kenmore is made or has been by every brand.

Hi Andy, usually the spin is very stable, but this time the machine was off balance and the Speed Queen corrected itself to get through the load.  See my other videos for normal spins.

Mayfan69 - they were not much, less than $20 I believe.  They are very thin plastic (paper like) and were difficult to get the knobs off on my washer.  If you get them, let me know and I'll give you some pointers.
