New Sweeper or Stick Broom Recommendations?

I've got my Hoover Floormate for scrubing my tile, but not real keen on pulling out the wet dog hair from it after I use it. The whole house is tiled, with no area rugs or carpet. The Kirby G4 seems too "complicated" for other household members to use, even with the hose and floor attachment already set up. (hmmm, maybe should post this to that other thread going on).

I just got back from Target, and left more confused than when I went in. Looked at Sharks, Dirt Devils and so on. I saw a nice little Shark canister type, but the cleaning head for floors was very narrow, I would like something a bit wider.

The question is, what would be a good smaller type stick broom or powered sweeper that I could use to just vacuum up tons of dog hair before I scrub the floors? It doesn't have to have a brush roller, but should be very, very easy to use. See above paragraph. It could even be a smaller type vacuum, either canister or upright. Battery or electic would work as well.

I think this is pretty much a case now where the only way to go is vintage, but out of the modern stick vacuums, the Sanyo RotoSweep is good...I've seen a few and they're decent machines. I'm not positive, but I thought it was available at Best Buy.

As for battery machines, have you tried one of those Swiffer-vacs? Would probably be good for pet hair on floors.

And for vintage...

Here's my late 60's/70's-vintage Eureka stick vac, with it's nice, wide floor tool. Really packs some power (and noise too)! Steve (Toggleswitch) surprised me with this one at the Convention in June...good thing I didn't fire it up at the hotel!

May I recommend....

Hoover Telios canister, kinda compact-ish, but very powerful, decent sized bag, cord reel, variable speed, and a full set of tools for above the floor cleaning.
I have one, its great for sucking crumbs off the kitchen floor, or dog hair from the couch. Its very light and easy to use.

Regina Electrikbrooms are great on bare floors. My late '60s model is a joy.

I don't exactly know what they cost on your side of the pond, but Miele sells some nice stick vacuums or universal uprights as they call them. Here's the link to them on the Miele website.

I've tried everything for dog hair and those quick painless cleanups without having to resort to a bigger vac. First I started with a B&D floor vac which used those cylindrical batteries interchangeable with all the other tools,, it works quite well but the replacement batteries cost more than the vac with batteries already included. Luckily I have a drill, a flashlight, a blender, a cutting saw, a rotary saw, and a bathroom scrubber that all use the same battery.
Then I got one of those Shark Sweepers sort of like a rechargeable carpet sweeper, I reallly really liked it because you could pick up anything with it including nuts and bolts, until it jammed an broke so I returned it. Next I found a Karcher, same idea, rechargable carpet sweeper on liquidation for $15.. it works great and hasn't broken but eventually the batteries inside it will be shot and that'll probably be the end of that. I also got one of those really chintzy Singer Igia Lazer Storms for about $15 at liquidation..piece of junk, dont' get one. Of all of them the Karcher is probably the best, easy to empty , picks up everything like nuts and bolts, marbles etc, dog hair but if you can't find it less than $30 I'd get something else, like a plug in Eureka Stick vac or something vintage.

I think the Karcher is called the EZ Broom. There's no suction, just the powered brush on the front

Thank you all for the suggestions! After discussing a couple of options with my partner, an upright was prefered. I went with the Simplicity Quicksilver. To save space, I just posted the link.

There's a local vacuum store that I checked out today. They sell the Miele, Lindhaus and several other brands so I was able to look at several stick type vacuums.

This one seems to fit the bill. No revolving brush, very easy to change over to the attachments, it stands up by itself and most importantly the cord has an automatic rewind. I HATE to wind up cords!!

I've given it a test vacuum in the parrot room and it picks up his peanuts and food with no problems, even on the low speed setting. The dog hair and kibble are no match for it. In the laundry room, paper clips and loose change are gone as well.
