New to me Asko washer and dryer set!

A while ago, I got lucky and scored a 2018/9 Asko 10kg washing machine and heat pump dryer. The owner was getting rid of them because she didn’t like them and they had a couple of problems.

Since getting them home, I figured out the “problems” with each unit.

Dryer : it had blocked filters, some bent fins and a blocked out let pump. It seems to work quite well now. First heat pump I have tried.

Washer: Appeared to work really well, but took forever to pump out and cycle times seemed really long. Stating 1:30 hours, but taking 2 +. The original owner said it needed a new outlet hose- checked it and it was fine. Further digging found a button blocking the pump ( the section the connected to the hose). It now pumps out great, however still take a long time. Last cycle it ran - it gave an E1 error- Thermistor error??? - but at a loss. Assuming it is the element ??

Thats a nice looking set you have there.

Before you try the thermistor you could be onto a winner with the heater. I would certainly try that. Now its pumping out can you feel if the water is hot?

Although I have no idea how you clear the error codes that may be worth looking into also while I think of it does it need a descale?

Lovely looking machines

Loved the look but scared that they are fragile.

Seen many rusty around the detergent drawer.

If you are rummaging inside, please post some pictures.

Design

I know what you mean Richard. They look fantastic! I will be taking the washer apart tomorrow to check the element and go into service mode. I will take some snaps.

I have also seen many asko machines with rust, however it seems to have a more sturdy draw than previous models.

Still in two minds if I swap my current set for this for something different. I currently use a Bosch Logixxx 8 washing machine & dryer set, which works well.

We got heat but …

So I checked all the connections and ran a cycle at 60c and it looks like the element works ( water was hit etc from the outlet.
However, timing the cycle it took 15 mins longer. During the wash it would count down on the screen and then stay on the same timing ( still wash and pause etc).

I guess I will have to keep testing it and see if it displays the error again ? Maybe it is the element still or sensor ?

Any suggestions / ideas would be greatly appreciated.

There seems to be corrosion around the heater and its terminals which may be cured with a quick sand with some emery paper and reconnecting, Its worth a shot !

There is a leak somewhere back there, you can see remnants of it on the heater flange & terminals, the motor shaft and the base pan of the machine.  Have you seen any water or moisture when running it?

My old ASKO has a control board on the top side with wires running down and connecting to the motor control board, down and near the side of the motor (see pictures)

Where is the main control board on this model? Is it now on the bottom or have they combined the two boards as one? I would enjoy seeing a picture or two of that bottom left side (opposite side of your pump picture).

For such a new machine, I am a bit surprised to see what appears to be so much moisture that has collected and evaporated on the bottom center rear. Where could that have come from ?

Maybe do a quick ohms check of your heating element - I think s/be 20-40 ohms. Of course you should have continuity.

More testing

Still testing and trying this machine . Aside from the slightly extended frustrations with cycle times, the washing machine washes really well and I’m very impressed with its performance. It hasn’t errored again since the first time nor has it leaked. A tiny bit of water came from the door sill during the final high water rinse and spin, but I think I overloaded the machine.

I have cleaned the terminals and sprayed on contact cleaner to the heater connections .

I will run some empty cycles as the ‘timed cycles’ run exactly to their set time- maybe it’s adding time for weight or rinsing ?
