New to me Fridgette twin tub

After a few days "dating" with the pictures on OfferUp, tonight Darry and I finally drove to glendale to pick up this little beauty.

It works, it has some leaks and a complex drain system.

Wash action impressed a lot, capacity isn't horrible as I thought.

What else can you guys tell me about this washer?

sure looks Japanese to me too ~1971-74 era.Get some pics of the underneath/motors,and I will see if I can tell who made it Sanyo,Hitachi,Brother,Matsushita a few of the mfg.i have noticed on US market TTs of Japanese origin

I can tell you

You can buy a new modern one for less $ that it probably costs to fill the gas tank on your vehicle and that includes shipping to your home.

 

I bought one back in April 2020 for $104 as covid hit.  It was fun but it did not have a built in pump so it had to be either set up on something so water could run into a drain or let the hose down into a bucket.  I think one can also buy the new ones WITH a pump.

 

Does yours have a pump? 

 

It's incredible the antique things out in the world still in perfectly good condition.

Picked up a Kenmore Twin Tub...

I picked up this twinnie from the thrift shop the other day. Boy does it swirl the water around! The spinner is really well balanced and soooo quiet. The tag at the back tells me that it is made in Japan. Is there a way to get rid of the "pitting" of the aluminium near the impeller? Guy

Mixed feelings, after playing with it.

Wash action is awesome. It really moves clothes, it doesn't tangle as much as I would expect, it gets the clothes clean. Period.

Draining sucks. The pump is powered by the impeller motor so the only way to drain or spin is with it agitating.

This machine is the queen of suds lock and don't think about draining it with the lid open. It will drain 20% through the suds locked pump and 80% with the impeller spraying water on the laundry room ceiling.

It's probably awesome to make 5 gallons of whipped cream in seconds.

My unit has some leaks, I fixed most of them but I discovered last night that the overflow drain is also leaking.

It wasn't grounded and I could feel that trickle on my hands when unloading. Huge red flag. I replaced the power cord, grounded it a d it stopped. However, aftera wash that leaked through the overflow drain, it was shocking again so I have to open it up and recheck everything. Just in case, I'll rarely use it anyways and always unplug before touching it.

I forgot to mention... yes, it's CUTE.

It's tiny like a Maytag A50 and it's so adorable.

No Grounded Cord ?

Thats been a requirement since around 1959 in the US.

 

How old is this washer ?

No idea, the power cord was original, 2 prong... it had a separate ground cord.

I'd love to know the year my machine is.

Date of manufacture

with the belt driven pump,i think it likely was made prior to 1971,but not earlier that 1968.Look at components such as capacitors,solenoids and belts for a date code-japanese cords often had a year of manufacture on them-look at fine print along the cord-something like "Yazaki 1970" might be found.A Japanese calendar date stamp might be found in the machine or on parts.
