New to me Whirlpool Powerclean portable dishwasher

Hello everyone, I finally picked my new dishwasher up this evening and I am in love. Very like new condition, and most importantly runs like new as well. I’ve ran it a few times and I’ve noticed the cycles are much shorter than my all stainless Maytag Jetclean at my other house, as they are designed off the same style just about.

Not sure the year, I do know that they sold these portable models until at least 2011 not sure when they ended, but I’m guessing it’s gotta be mid 2000’s. Model number DP940PWPQ0

I got it for only 100$, seller included all the manuals and even the adapter for the sink. It runs perfectly and so very powerful. Best dishwashers made, my neighbor had the same dishwasher but hers was built in. I used it a few times while she was away and had me stay at her house, and it seems the cycles on mine are much shorter than hers were and it was the exact same model, had the same amount of controls. Not sure if portable models are just times shorter or what, but I really love it and am running its first cycle with dishes.

Absolutely, wasn’t too dirty either down in the grits of the machine I used vinegar first then Finish cleaner in the next cycle to fully deep clean it better. Works like new and looks like new as well, It’s just very strange to me how short these cycles are compared to similar machines like this one that I’ve used. It’s nice because it gets the job done quickly without wasting time as it seems these way newer dishwashers do.

I had the built in version of this machine for a while, a capable and no nonsense machine. Yes it will fly through the cycles, especially if you don’t use the temp boost options. The Normal cycle with no options will produce a purge before the final rinse instead of a full full, this will shorten the cycles too if you the machine you previously used was a little older.

Thank you Johnny, was an absolute steal. I’ve had it now since Christmas Eve and have done quite a few test loads and it runs exactly like new, very powerful machine. I was a bit pissed I couldn’t have found an older powder clean model with the tower water supply tube in the lower rack for the upper wash arm, but this certainly is pretty much identical and I’m used to this design, I love it very much but would have been cool if I gotten the older version wash system. My Maytag at home has the same upper wash arm as my new portable model, I believe this unit is a 2001. On the manuals I received with the dishwasher it says 2001 in the far lower corner. The last owner inherited it with they’re new home as the previous owners left the dishwasher behind.

Only issue this machine has is the soap dispenser doesn’t open during the wash, so I’m sure that’s possibly the spring? I’m not sure but I always flip it open after the first pre rinse.

On the mechanical power cleans the detergent cup was released by an arm at the timer like a mechanical GE. I’m not sure what the release mechanism is on the electronic ones, probably a bi metallic strip. The spring holds it shut so if the door shuts there’s probably a problem with the release mechanism. It could just be stuck or out of adjustment, you’ll have to pull the door panel apart and look at it. Also if you want to convert it to use a spray tower you certainly can, you would need the manifold, the screw in cap, tower, and upper wash arm. I had that exact machine for a while and I took the parts out of an Ultrawash and swapped them just to see if it would work.

That’s really funny you bring this up, I actually thought about doing that because I do have parts from an older model, the black rubber top the tower and an upper arm. My question is what would I do with the back feed tube coming from the sump area? How would that get plugged off?

I had this same idea but couldn’t figure what to do with the back feed tube if I converted it.

You would have to get the pump outlet for a 2nd revision pump (with the filter and not the dead zone) that is for a tower feed. You take the wash arm off and there are 8 or so torx screws that hold it on. The feed tube itself is held on by screw on the back of the tub, it just unscrews and comes out.

Gotcha that’s what I figured had to be different would be changing out that sump manifold, definitely will have that in mind for the future! I’m just amazed at how smooth this machine still runs being atleast a 2001 (According to the manual). Not too loud but very very powerful sounding, this was exactly what I wanted for a portable machine because I’m familiar with these types as I have a all stainless Maytag at my other reside & someone I knew had the exact machine I own but hers was built in and a bit quieter, probably because it was built into the cabinet of the kitchen.

She runs strong and I’ve ran a few cleaning cycles and cleaned the door frame and underneath, it was a bit soap scummy but is in like new condition and it was an absolute steal. I was originally looking at countertop machines instead of a full sized portable on wheels, but the prices on the brand new and used counter tops were at least 250$ and brand new are in the 300$ range and I didn’t want to go the used route on a countertop because I’m unfamiliar with them. I looked on marketplace and found plenty of full sized portables for 100-200$ in decent shape, so I figured I’d be getting way bigger bang out of my buck to buy a full sized portable instead of wasting more money on something the size of a microwave, it just wouldn’t make sense to throw away at least 300$ on something that small when I can have a full sized used for less than that. And luckily I waited and found the perfect deal, machine like I said runs and looks brand new and it’s been a huge help, and I’m glad I found the deal only a few hours after the listing was posted. As mentioned, this machine was left by the previous owner of the house that the guy was selling it from, he moved in there after they left and they had left this machine behind and he inherited it and decided he didn’t need it. Overall the machine looks pretty lightly used, or it was used a bit back in the early 2000s when it was brand new and then not used for a long time after that. Who knows, it’s just very mint and thank you all for you’re feedback!

Yes going for the full size machine was the better choice, it’s much more flexible and able to handle pots and pans and other large items. I have only used one countertop machine, but I would say the performance is probably much better too, especially with that Whirlpool. If you are going to order parts for it you could get the tuning fork that screws into the motor. It was suppose to dampen the vibrations and make the motor smoother and quieter. It was a feature on the TOL machines before the point voyagers came out, I think they took it out by the time your machine was made as the point voyagers where intended to be TOL. One word of caution, these can suffer from rack rot, if you see any spots treat it quickly before it spreads. Otherwise happy dishwashing!

Would you have a link to the exact manifold id need to get? Yeah that would be very easy to do, and may actually consider it just as it’s a cool idea!!
