Hi Jon. Well Fairy in hand or not i don't think you look like one mr ;-p
Been playing with my machine here for a fair while. just reassembled all top section after stripping. scrubbing clean and checking every things in order.

Welcome to the site from one Si to another! Always great to see enthusiasts come across the site for the first time, it's nice to find out you're not alone! I don't post here as often as I'd like to, but it's a sound bunch of guys here and I'm sure you'll enjoy it here.

Was it a deliberate choice to go for a Hoovermatic? Like your gran found, they're not as easy to master as a Hotpoint, but you get the knack after a while, having said that, had mine four years and still overload the tub sometimes (worth using the spin can to 'measure' load size before it goes in the tub)...

Hi Si.
Thanks for the welcome (and hoovermatic tip)
Yes it was a choice to go for the hoovermatic. I was brought up with the hotpoint twin tub but when i was 14 was given a 1961 Hoovermatic and had it in the outhouse for a few years washing blankets etc. Always found it more exciting and i think gave a better wash (maybe I'm biased)
What i also couldn't get over was the speed of a wash with the Hoovermatic. Yes u could time the wash on a Hotpoint to the same but i do think the Hoover had the edge. Also finding it was lighter to move etc.
How about u? What got you into this at the start then?

Warmest of welcomes, Si.

Most collectors have indulged in smuggling machines into the house, hoping people don't notice. lol.

I’m one of them but always get caught, thing is to shove it in the garage for a few weeks and then introduce it into the house, not to cover it and it dose not stand out too much, well that’s how I do it know, I have smuggled in the odd thing and cover with a blanket, that’s like a red rag too her-in-doors “what the hell is that, how much money have you wasted” just like a howler letter in Harry Potter.

I have just finished restoring the Liberator 1851/03

And also have 18680 plus 95622, and a machine which I have made my own microchip controller for which one day may just get finished, it just keeps evolving.

Recently added a Hoover Constellation vacuum into the mix.

Hi PaulC
Thanks for the welcome. Yes have met some great people already.
How about u then? what machines have u got?

Wow nice pic. Looks a very smart piece of kit.
Ive just got the Hoovermatic de luxe T5054 twin tub here and the more modern Hotpoint WF561P FRONTLOADER. though have to say I'm not impressed with that one at all lol

Thanks Si,

Yea it is a great machine, I love it to bits. Was scared I may get bored of it but I can't see that happening!

I know what you mean about Hotpoint, we had a WD440, I hated it with a passion and jumped for joy when it croaked after two years.

Well my hotpoint is crap think the programmer is faulty.
If u put it on a long wash and don't set extra rinse and use one of those liquid tablets the clothes come out with the gell case on them even after they been rinsed etc

Hheheh well I've done 6 loads of washing today in the time the automatic took to do 1.
Am not on Facebook but on yahoo and msn messenger if you fancy adding me.
