I love my hotpoint dishwasher. It has always done a great job. It is only a builders grade model, I am sure.
I went to a habitat for humanity store last saturday with a friend. She told me they sometimes have old appliances from people remodeling and donating their old ones. Their was a Hotpoint dishwasher similar to mine, but with all the bells and whistles. Water temp boost, rinse aid dispenser, pots and pans cycle etc... It was marked $5. I went and got it today. My sis said that if I installed it she would take mine, hers is about to give up.
The model number is HDA950G-01.I ran it this afternoon, seems to be working properly. There is a small leak behind the solenoid that switches the pump from wash action to drain. It is worse in drain mode. BUT not a bad leak at all...maybe 3 tablespoons of water during drain.
Does anyone happen to have a users manual? If so I would pay for your time and trouble to copy and send. or scan and send.
This model has a "water temp boost" button. Does this delay the timer or does it just run the heater while the dishwasher is running?

It is very common for a GE/HOTPOINT d/w to leak at the solenoid valve. It will eventually get worse. I beleive the only fix is to replace the motor/pump assembly. Also the "temp boost" stalls the timer by either putting a bimetal switch in the circuit or a thermostat in the door to sense water temp.

Pictures......

I'll take some pictures when I get home this evening for you Bob. Dad had Surgery this morning, all went well. Will be going by the hospital to releave my sis after I get off work at 2:30. Probably be home by 8 or so.

Tom, that's the model above my old Hotpoint that was installed in 1984 when the house was built. I just never thought they were worth much. Every hotpoint I ever used couldn't deal with rice when they were fully loaded, or any other starchy stuff. It all got sent to the glasses and stuck there. I ripped it out for my current GE. It holds more and is quieter. The guy that installed it for me said he could hear the larger pump motor, and he did look and compare their sizes, and could hear a difference in cleaning performance. I sold the old Hotpoint to a friend of mine at work who couldn't care less if it cleaned or not, she just liked the all-black look--mine had the black panels exposed.

Hotpoint

Hey Bob, I have always been pleased with my Hotpoint. Have never thought about replacing it. I have never had the opportunity to try rice in it though. Mom always complains, when they eat here, to my dad about how my dishwasher cleans better than her Kitchen aid....bought in the late 70's I think. I will have to get the model number from that. Her kitchen is avacodo green. I think the reason my DW does better than hers is because I have my hot water heater set considerably higher than her and dad. Dad refuses to set it higher...You know that generation out of the depression are so frugal! She has Caloric stove and oven both built-in. I dont know how old those are....probably original to the house. I have never saw the Caloric name before. We bought that house when I was in 5th grade....hmm 1967?
The main reason I bought this little Hotpoint was that it was only $5. I am thinking that I can get some experience with tinkering around with it and not worry about damaging it to the point of no return. LOL.
I have ran it again. The timer sticks when the hot water boost button is pressed. I am assuming that the thermostat is not telling the timer to start advancing again...
