"New" Truck

Well, we finally sold the Delorean a couple weeks ago. Altough we really wanted to keep it, we kind of needed the money(Steve is out of work right now and is dealing with a very bad back). Anyways that just left us with a 2001 Ford Explorer. We needed a second rig. So with a small part of the money we made off the Delorean we got me this 1969 Ford F-100 truck. It runs and drives great. Needs a few things, but I can drive it while I work on it as well. Has a 360 V8 and a 4spd tranny.

The body is in pretty good shape. Looks to be an original AZ truck since there is no rust on it. It does eventually need a paint job on it. I will keep it the same color. I love the turquoise and white combination.

I need to get carpet for it, but for now it will work as is. After a new compressor and hoses the ac now works as well. Nice to be cool in the summer time.

Even though I now have a truck that doesn't mean I can bring home more vintage appliances. Or thats what Steve has told me. I guess I'll just have to hide them somewhere. LOL

I love the air-conditioner!
My dad had a GMC truck that had one of these in it. It would freeze you out!
Were these a add on, or did they come like this from the factory?
His air-conditioner was an "Air-Temp". I remember the back blowers and the tubes that ran through the floor to carry the condensation water.
Nice you got yours up and running again. What brand compressor did you replace?
Tough built looking truck! I bet it is fun to drive.

Air-Temp was from Chrysler products, Frigidaire/Harrison was on GM products. Chrysler air conditioning of the era was VERY cold.

Beautiful truck, it has great visibility from inside the cab and it's very clean. Do you know if it ever had a camper or shell on the back? The side view mirrors tend to indicate that it did at one time or another. What's the odometer reading?

I have always liked the styling in this vintage of Ford pick-ups. If you were in need of some practicality, the Delorean can't hold a candle an F-100.

Sometimes you have to let go and allow someone else to enjoy a specialty car. You did the right thing.

The ac unit is an aftermarket unit made by Frigette. And it does blow nice and cold.
At one time there was a camper shell on it.
And even though this truck will be more practical for us than the Delorean. I am sure going to miss it though.

Ditto what Ralph said about the styling - it's a handsome machine, and you could not have a better color combo. Finding the 4-speed gearbox is really nice too, as most were automatics. That 360 is an FE block, same family as the 332/352/390/410 and 428 engines. Not overly economical, but they'll run a long time with reasonable care and are great torquey things if you need to haul something heavy, like say a couple of Laundromats or Gyromatics. About the only downside is Ford's wacky swing-axle front suspension, but so long as it's kept aligned and the shocks are good it's OK too.

I guess they don't make those hang on car a/c's anymore with most cars having it as standard equip now. . Used to be you could get them at pretty much any auto supply and Sears etc.

I believe there is a company or companies that still make a type of under-dash hang-on air conditioning. They are primarily sold for street rods, but they should be generic enough they could be installed on anything.

There is also a company (in Texas, I think) that sells replacements parts and restores parts for vintage auto air conditioning.

I'd suspect that, too. I don't know the current car market very well, but I suspect that nothing above entry level comes without air conditioning. For that matter, from what little I see, most cars now come loaded with features. Personally, I'd hate this if I were buying a new car (everything I've owned has been used--in one case, I was fifth owner!) As far as I'm concerned, most features only add to the price (even if "standard" you are paying something). And it's just more things to break.

It actually has freeze 12 in it. Its cheaper than r12 and just about as good.

As far as cars coming standard with everything you can still get some cars without all the add ons. Bout a year ago my dad purchased a cheapy KIA that came with nothing. No a/c, manual windows and locks, it didn't even come with a radio. I also think (if my memory serves me right) that it also has no power steering. He bought it brand new and cost under $10,000. I doubt any ford, gm, or chrysler product would come without a lot of that though, but Kia does.

Ford Ranger can come stripped down, only came with a Radio. On mine, the A/C, cloth seat was an upgrade.
