Hi guys,

Since we've discovered a local Hoover enthusiast, I thought i'd do a video of my 1970 Hoover 565. This is the 2nd model down from the TOL 585. Heater and suds save model.

The specs of this machine is:

Claimed capacity: 16lb
Agitation speed: Regular - 99 OSC
Gentle - 66 OSC

Spin speed: Regular - 565 RPM
Gentle - 365 RPM

These machines are based on the US Blackstone design. The '500' Series were the only series to do a spin-drain. All successive models had a neutral drain. Hoover washers dominated the Australian market for many years and this design with this washing action lasted till about 1987.

Before anybody asks: yes, this machine is supposed to have a blue agitator and I do have a spare, however, I've found it almost impossible to get the chrome cap off and until such a time that any major work needs to be done, I've decided not to tamper with it as it's working just fine.

P.S: if you hear me talking to someone, it's my pesky 4 yr old neighbour who was about to disturb the tripod!

Cheers
Leon

Wow

That wash action certainly looks much more effective than any other top loader I've seen in action.

Very nice!

Wonderful Memories

Hi Leon

The memories of my parents' 525 top loader come flooding back - the washing action, spray rinses, and the tub lifting when the motor reverses for spin dry. I'd forgotten how effective the spin brake was. The 500 series control panels were so classy. I also notice there's a heater light, something the 525 didn't have.

The ad is also wonderful. Was there an actual record inside? Do you have any more 500 series brochures?

Is there any chance of some pictures of the machine with the front panel off.

Thank you very much Leon for posting this, and sorry about all the requests.

Regards
John

P.S. When rummaging around at my parents' house on the weekend, I found the rating plate for the 525. It must have fallen off at some stage and Dad put it into a drawer. It's a little the worse for wear.

Some pics.

Hi John,

I'll post some pics with the front panel off later today.

Just so you know: this machine actually has the guts of a 525, but with the 565 control panel put onto it.

My original 565 needs new seals but the 525 came to me in great working order and no leaks.

Cheers
Leon

Front panel removed

Hi John

If you check out this previous thread, you'll see the front panel removed of the 525.

Hi Leon

I followed the link. It was nice to see the inside of a 500 washer again, complete with the water shield (plastic bag) over the thermostats.

Were the motors in the 500 series brush type, or where they induction?

Thanks again for the great memories.

Cheers John

re; Hoover Meadowbank, NSW

About a decade or so ago, I was doing research on old Hoovers worldwide.
I read they had a plant in Ryde, Meadowbank, Sydney, so I did a Google map search.
I saw the plant before it was torn down or repurposed. Lots of new housing there as well now.
If they would only start doing this here. General Motors is the worst offender of abandoned plants still standing in decay.
