New washer and dryer-SPEED QUEEN????

Hello friends,
Got all my kitchen appliances picked out-going with Frigidaire Professional Series stainless steel.I had it narrowed down to Frigidaire(which I have had incredibly good luck with),or Kitchenaid-Frigidaire$1500 cheaper,but what sealed the deal was the Kitchenaid counter depth fridge is taller and won't fit under the cabinet.My question today is for the laundry-The Speed Queen FL specifically.There were complaints about the wash time being too short-according to the web site,normal wash is 24 min-certainly long enough, if not overkill.140 degree heater too.Any reason NOT to purchase these that anyone knows-both me and my wife like the simplicity of the controls-we would leave the extra rinse switch on,so just select temp,turn and go.Is it just my imagination,or are women the WORST launderers?

I have had the ATS90 Washer and AES68 Dryer since March 2005 and am very happy with both of them. You are right that there were complaints about the wash time which I believe is 9 minutes of the total 24, this does not cause any problems for me. There are several machines that have the pre wash and stain cycles which I think some consumers think is the cure all for heavily soiled or stained laundry - I just pre treat when needed.

The machines remind me of the quality well built solid machines of yesteryear. When I bought my set the machine with the heater was not available and I'm not sure that if it was that I would have gotten it.

24 min wash

Jimmy,thanks for the good feedback.The new SQ actually WASHES 24 min when set to reg,the total cycle time is about44 min without extra rinse andnot allowing for heating time.That is why I said in an earlier post that they went from one extreme to the other on wash time!I went to see the machines in person today-boy are they impressive!Really have a look of quality to them.Only disapointment was the dispenser drawer-VERY flimsy.Also,the door opens on the wrong side on the washer!I wondered why the pictures on the website showed the dryer on the left-thats why.They offered a really fair price on them,but the door deal might knock me out of contention.

Door Opening

My washer has the smaller-original door, I have it set up with the washer on the left and dryer on the right. In all honesty it is not too much of a problem with the washer door opening towards the dryer, but do understand why it is not desired. The detergent drawer does seem a bit flimsy when you look at how well built the machine is as a whole but I have not had any issues with that either, it is in the same condition as when I first purchased the set.

I did not know that they had added that much time onto the regular wash cyle you are right is is a bit extreme.

SQ FL

Don't worry Foraloysis,we enjoyed the clip anyway.These machines,whether TL or FL,exude quality.Do the TLs remind anyone but me of Maytags?(back in the day)I mean the quiet,no nonsense aspect of them.
Jimmy,I have the capability of putting the washer on the right,ust have to get longer hoses and perhaps cords.And dryer vent hose,which means they cant go too close to the wall to keep from mashing the dryer hose.Does it matter how long a dryer hose is?Or a drain hose?Dont let me screw up here guys!I can go with the Affinity just as easily,but love those SQs.

I am glad to hear that (Alliance) has increased the wash times on the SQ front loaders. I would seriously consider one.
Remember that SQ touts the fact that they use steel gears in their transmissions for long life. So they should be reliable machines. Plus I believe that SQ now offers a three year warranty on their washers and dryers rather than a one year warranty. This started with this years models.

SQ front loader video

Here's a short video of my SQ washer. It's the first model with the small door and the 9 min. wash. For a longer wash I use the heated wash option and get a 20-30 min. wash.

Speed Queen!

Jeff thanks for the vidio. It would be nice if they give you a option for the wash time. Like 9 15 24 not just 1 preset. But this does look like a sturdy built machine. I am still in the market for a new washer. I am currently using the public laundry room. I still Don't regret getting rid of the LG. Hopefully I could come up with something soon, but it probably won't be a combo.
