New Whirlpool Top Load Washer

I am looking to buy a new whirlpool Washer#WTW5100S, This washer is basic,temp control in timer,surgilator agitator. I now own an Estate extra large capacity.looking for a bigger capacity. the Whirlpool is 1 speed,would that be gentle for my clothes.Thank You.

If I were you I would have a look at Roper and Estate washers. For $50.- extra you will get a 2 speed machine, separate temp. control etc.

BTW, the name Ted Tacoma sounds familiar. Were you active on another appliances board in the past?

Sillysuds: Why not try one of the Frigidaires or a Speed Queen washer, In my opion there better then Whirlpool. Sorry not a friend of Whirlpool right now, not after the takeover of Maytag and what they've done to it. Thanks, Danf.

You would be safe with WP/KM. If you can spend a little more, it is worth getting a machine with the three speed motor for more flexibility.

Lid Switch

I was in Best Buy today looking at the Whirlpool washer and i could not find the lid switch. on my Estate it is right on the top. do the new Whirlpool's stop all action when the lid is up? I like to see the wash cycle move my clothes. If not,I am going to buy a Used Kenmore or Whirlpool. also I seen the Inglis brand still made by Whirlpool, did they stop making the Estate Brand?

The lid switch in my Whirlpool washer stops all action except for fill. I agree its kinda maddening that you cant watch it wash...but I unscrew the left lid hinge and move into the down position to make it work. Its a pain in the backside I think but its a safety thing since I saw something a few years ago about a kid watching the washer wash and the kid fell into the washer head first.
The kid's parents were not around and the kid was in the washer for a bit...I was surprised it didnt kill him. I could imagine the horror finding your kid up ended in a washer while it was washing.

Mike, what model Whirlpool do you own? also thank's for the information on the lid switch,I did not hear about the poor kid who fell into the washer.Bob.
